Titans-Vikings: Winners and Losers

Postby laiyongcai92 » Wed Feb 13, 2019 7:16 am

We made it! Preseason is finally over and we can move on to talking about REAL football! But first http://www.titansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-brian-orakpo-jersey , here are some winners and losers from Vikings 13, Titans 3.WinnersDalyn DawkinsDawkins got the start over Akrum Wadley and got a lot of work during the game. He played pretty well despite not getting much help from the rag tag offensive line group playing in front of him. Fluellen is the clear 3rd back behind Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis, but it remains to be seen what the team will do beyond that. They could choose to keep just three backs on the roster, they could go sign a player that gets cut somewhere else, or they could keep either Dawkins or Wadley. I’m not ruling anything out here.Kenneth DurdenDurden just continues to make plays during preseason action. He started late — only signing with the team after the first preseason game in Green Bay — but he quickly earned a look from the coaching staff and has made the most of it. It’s possible that the Titans look for a 5th corner among the cuts from other teams, but I have to think they feel pretty good about what they’ve seen from Durden over the past three weeks. Robert SpillaneSpillane is one of the feel-good stories that has emerged over the course of the offseason. He went from a tryout player to one of the biggest playmakers of the preseason for the Titans. I’d highly recommend checking out this piece on Spillane’s journey from The Athletic’s Travis Haney if you haven’t already. Spillane may or may not make the 53-man roster but he’s certainly made an impression. He had another nice game against the Vikings and now has to wait and see if that was enough. It seems likely that he at least sticks around on the practice squad, but we will find out soon enough.LosersFansThis game was a mess from the start as the Titans essentially sat nearly everyone on their two deep for the game. Not only were there virtually no recognizable names on the field for either team — besides maybe Trevor Siemian if you want to count the former Broncos starter — but the game was low scoring and generally dull. The Titans mustered just 165 yards of total offense all game and penalties continued to be an issue as they got flagged 11 times for 93 yards on the night. The Vikings weren’t a ton better either. This was just a disaster to watch as a Titans fan DaQuan Jones Jersey , Vikings fan, or fan of football in general. The NFL has to do something about the preseason. Its absurd that they charged full price for tickets for that display. I salute any fan that stood or sat in the rain for that. The Titans should have given every single one of them a $100 gift card to the pro shop for suffering through that.Laurence GibsonGibson got the start at left tackle and was promptly overwhelmed by Vikings defensive end Stephen Weatherly who got a sack and drew two holds on Gibson in the first quarter alone. He won’t make the roster, and this was a reminder why. Luke FalkFalk removed all doubt for me about whether or not he should make the 53-man roster. He’s just not worth it. No NFL team is swooping in to snatch him up after this preseason. If they want to keep him around on the practice squad just to have a 3rd arm for practices during the season, that’s fine, but in no way does he deserve to be on the 53-man roster. It will be interesting to see if the Titans snoop around some of the QB cuts over the next couple days. Josh Dobbs is rumored to be a likely cut candidate in Pittsburgh and he would be a much better option if Tennessee wanted a 3rd QB on the roster.Notes from Mike Vrabel’s Monday press conference Mike Vrabel addressed the media today after a let down loss in Buffalo. Some of the main themes of his message were consistency, effort, and focus. As usual Authentic Jurrell Casey Jersey , the coach refused to point the blame at any individual players, saying that the only two guys that the Titans didn’t need more from against the Bills were Ryan Succop and Brett Kern. It sounded like Vrabel was disappointed in the effort from the defense on the Josh Allen touchdown run. There appeared to be a lack of intensity from some players in pursuit of the Bills quarterback on that play and that’s unacceptable. As Vrabel said, “they can beat us, but they can’t outwork us.” Vrabel was quick to take responsibility for the delay of game penalty that pushed a 3rd and 3 to a 3rd and 8 during a Titans drive on the edge of field goal range. He said that he thought they were going to get it off and didn’t want to use a timeout if he didn’t have to. The big injury question coming out of the Bills game was with regards to Taylor Lewan who left early with a foot injury. He is having an MRI today to see what exactly is going on with the injured foot. It’s something that Lewan said he’s dealt with in the past. Dennis Kelly has a chance to be available this week according to Vrabel. He said that they worked him out before the game on Sunday and the biggest hurdle remaining is Kelly feeling comfortable that he’s ready to play. If Lewan’s injury is going to keep him out for any length of time, Kelly’s availability will be critical for the offense.Vrabel was asked about his feelings about the wide receiver depth and simply responded that he and Jon Robinson will continue to evaluate the roster at all positions, including receiver. I know the clamoring for Dez Bryant is going to ramp back up after Nick Williams let a potential win slip right through his arms in Buffalo, but do we really think adding the receiver who led the NFL in drops in 2017 to this roster is going to fix the drop issue? Vrabel praised Jonnu Smith’s work in pass protection Youth Ben Jones Jersey , saying that it was much better this week than it was against the Eagles. Regarding his lack of targets, he said that he needs to continue to build trust with Marcus Mariota. The Titans coach had a conversation with Rashaan Evans about the tweet regarding inside linebacker not being his primary position. Vrabel said that Evans can’t have it both ways with regards to social media and has to be consistent with his approach regardless of whether the team wins or loses. Regarding his play in the game, he said that he thought Evans had some good moments, but also a couple missed tackles that he would like to have back. Specifically one where he tried to crush LeSean McCoy instead of just squaring him up and making the tackle. One thing that really struck me from the press conference was Vrabel’s willingness to admit that he doesn’t know everything regarding quarterback and running back play specifically. He admits that he’s never played those positions and therefore he can only make suggestions and lean on others who have. It’s refreshing to hear a coach admit to not being an all-knowing expert on all things football.
