With the seven-day National Day holiday at its very beginning and the year-end busy period still months away Authentic Nail Yakupov Jersey , this October sees a number of highly anticipated movies squeezing in during the early days of the month. From comedy Breakup Buddies, period piece The Golden Era, to action flick Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, a majority of these films have either big name directors, stars, or both. Two animated films are also hitting screens, McDull: Me & My Mum and Kuiba III, which are sure to attract family audiences.
The period after the holidays is set aside mainly for imported blockbusters that weren't able to squeeze into the summer holiday schedule, such as the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy, The Maze Runner and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
There are several mid-budget domestic films that may appeal to art film fans lining up after the holiday break as well.
Actually premiering on the last day of September, domestic director Ning Hao's comedy Breakup Buddies is right around the corner. Staring actors Huang Bo and Xu Zheng, the three have been regarded as China's "golden trio" since their last cooperative work No Man's Land made a big splash in theaters in December 2013.
However, different from No Man's Land, which was a tough crime story, Breakup Buddies looks to bring laughter to audiences: After a messy divorce, Geng Hao (Huang) and his friend Hao Yi (Xu) decide to head down south to hunt for beautiful women.
Rising to fame with comedy Crazy Stone (2006), Ning is a well-known master of telling humorous stories in film. For this reason, Breakup Buddies has been greatly anticipated by fans long before its premiere date was even set.
Another film getting a lot of buzz is Ann Hui's The Golden Era. The Hong Kong director and producer has won numerous film awards at home and abroad, such as for A Simple Life (2011), which swept the best director, best actor and best actress awards at the Golden Horse Awards at Taiwan in 2011.
The Golden Era, the closing film of this year's Venice Film Festival, takes place against the 20-year-period between the 1930s and 1940s in China, following a group of young people pursuing their dreams and love during a time of war. The film is due out on October 1.
For action movie fans, Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, also premiering on October 1, may prove to be a good way to spend some time during the holidays.
The second installment in the Black & White franchise, The Dawn of Justice sees the reunion between policeman Wu Yingxiong (Mark Chao) and gangster Xu Dafu (Huang Bo) after the two worked together to solve a criminal case in The Dawn of Assault (2012). This time, the two are once again driven to work together to thwart a scheme to blow up their city, giving audiences a chance to enjoy watching these two very different characters join hands again.
As families settle down to enjoy the week-long holiday together, three animated films are looking to get them out of the house and into theaters: McDull: Me & My Mum, Kuiba III (both set on October 1) and Ice Age: The Meltdown (October 13) in 3D.
McDull is the name of an animated pig created by Hong Kong cartoonist Alice Mark and her husband Brian Tse, who writes the stories for the figure. Before animated TV series Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf became a smash hit among kids in the mid-2000s, McDull was one of the most popular cartoon figures of the early 21st century.
Now the character makes his big screen return with his friends in McDull: Me & My Mum. However, now that fans of the character have all grown up, it's still up in the air whether the little piggy will resonate with the children of today.
While McDull is aimed at small kids, the complicated story in Kuiba III looks to take on the teenage audience.
Taking place in the magical world known as Yuan Yang, the Kuiba series of animated films focuses on the demon-boy Man Ji, who, together with other demon knights, tries to prevent a terrible threat, Kuiba, from destroying their world.
Featuring a strong Japanese animation style, Kuiba has already established a firm fan base with the first two films in the series.
Ice Age: The Meltdown is interesting in that it is the second film in the Ice Age franchise that has already seen four films screened around the world. Originally shown in theaters back in 2006, receiving a grade of 810 on imbd, The Meltdown makes a return this year in full 3D splendor.
After more than two months of waiting since its US release in August, Guardians of the Galaxy is finally coming to the Chinese mainland on October 10.
The work of Slither (2006) director James Gunn, Guardians is the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film focuses on the story of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), an interstellar thief who is forced to form a partnership with four extraterrestrial misfits after stealing an orb and becoming the target of assassins sent by the alien Kree radical Ronan.
Having grossed more than $600 million worldwide, the film is the highest grossing movie in the US this year, and has received enormous positive reviews among critics and moviegoers.
Set for October 28, sci-fi action thriller The Maze Runner, adapted from American writer James Dashner's 2009 book of the same title, follows teenager Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and a group of teens who find themselves trapped in a labyrinth known as The Glade.
