LOS ANGELES — A rapidly maturing Colorado Avalanche squad visits Staples Center on Thursday night as the Los Angeles Kings return home.

Los Angeles (21-10-4) salvaged the final contest of a four-game road trip with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak.
Jonathan Quick was outstanding in net for the Kings Authentic Roquan Smith Jersey , stopping 35 shots while receiving goal support from Alec Martinez, Trevor Lewis, Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli.

Toffoli, who sealed the victory in Philadelphia with a late-third-period goal, continues to return to form after an injury-plagued 2016-17 season. The insurance marker was his 16th of the season, equaling his output in 63 games last season, when he missed time because of a leg injury that hampered throughout the campaign’s second half.

Now at full health, he has regained the form of two seasons ago, when he registered a career-high 31 goals.

Though more than half the season remains Cheap Taron Johnson Jersey , the victory in Philadelphia was important for the Kings. The team played poorly in the opener of the road trip in New Jersey, and despite improving efforts against the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, Los Angeles was not rewarded with a victory.

The team had extra motivation Monday, as it marked the first time John Stevens coached in Philadelphia against his former club. Stevens led the Flyers from 2006-09. Although the Kings defeated the Flyers 2-0 in the season opener at Staples Center, the return match in Philadelphia had special meaning.

“I’ll be totally honest, it’s nice to be where my kids grew up,” Stevens said. “It’s a win for them. This was a big game for us on this trip. I really wanted to take two points home for us. It’s just a nice win against a quality hockey team.”

A longtime Kings veteran is set to record a significant milestone when the puck drops Thursday. Dustin Brown is scheduled play his 1,000th NHL game, which will make him the 315th player in league history to achieve that mark.

Brown will be the second Los Angeles player to reach the plateau in the past week as Marian Gaborik achieved it against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Unlike Gaborik Cheap Orlando Brown Jr. Jersey , Brown has played his entire career in a Kings uniform, a feat that seemed unlikely given his lack of the production the past two seasons under former coach Darryl Sutter.

Brown survived offseason speculation that he would be selected in the NHL expansion draft by the Vegas Golden Knights or be traded. He will become only the second person to play each of his first 1,000 NHL games for the Kings, joining Dave Taylor, who played in 1,111 games as a King.

Like Toffoli, Brown has responded with a bounce-back season. Getting a fresh start under Stevens, Brown has 12 goals, 16 assists and a plus-14 rating in 35 games Cheap Dante Pettis Jersey , a level of production that should see him easily surpass last season’s totals (14 goals, 22 assists in 80 games).

Los Angeles made a roster move Wednesday after placing defenseman Christian Folin on injured reserve as a result of an upper-body injury he sustained Monday. Kevin Gravel was recalled from the Kings’ AHL Ontario affiliate.

Gravel has appeared in 24 games with Ontario this season, registering three goals, six assists and 15 penalty minutes. Gravel appeared in 49 games last season with the Kings, posting one goal, six assists, a plus-3 rating and six penalty minutes.

Colorado (16-15-2) will enter its first matchup of the season against Los Angeles with confidence brimming from a 4-2 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins in Denver on Monday night. The Avalanche swept the season series with Pittsburgh.

Though the Penguins have struggled to find their championship form, the pair of wins in which the Avalanche limited Pittsburgh to three goals shows Colorado’s defensive potential.

“We played a with a lot of determination tonight,” defenseman Mark Barberio said Monday. “I think these wins against Pittsburgh show that we can compete with anybody.”

Avalanche coach Jared Bednar concurred with Barberio about the team’s improvement and increased confidence. After starting December with a four-game losing streak , Colorado has won four of its past six contests.

While the Avalanche are far from pushing for the top of the Central Division, the club bears no resemblance to the one that registered a league-low 48 standings points last season.

“We are growing as a team,” Bednar said. “We did a lot of good things against Pittsburgh. We are gradually becoming more consistent at the things we are supposed to do.”

Nathan MacKinnon has lead the way offensively for Colorado, registering 15 goals and 24 assists in 33 games. With Matt Duchene traded to Ottawa in November, MacKinnon has combined with wingers Gabriel Landeskog (13 goals, 12 assists) and Mikko Rantanen (10 goals, 19 assists) to form a formidable first line.

For Colorado to further improve this season, it must receive more offense from its depth players as the first line trio are the only Avalanche players with double-digits goals totals.

The Avalanche will be without a key blue-line contributor as defenseman Erik Johnson will miss the contest as he completes his two-game suspension as the result of a hit on Tampa Bay’s Vladislav Namestnikov in Colorado’s 6-5 loss to the Lightning on Saturday.

NASHVILLE , Tenn. (AP) Wesley Woodyard misses putting milk in his cereal, and try as he might, the Tennessee Titans linebacker still reaches for a strip of bacon here and there.

Giving up meat hasn’t been easy, but in a league where everyone is looking for an edge, Woodyard and the Titans think they’ve found one in the produce aisle.Image

Woodyard and at least 10 teammates – mostly on defense – have opted to eat vegan diets this season. Football players have long had a carnivorous reputation, but Tennessee’s defenders say they feel energized by their nutrition adjustment, something that’s helped the unit rank third against the run and fifth in the league with 40 sacks.

Article continues below ...
Woodyard is in his 10th NFL season, and usually by this time of year, he’s taking daily naps to combat late-season fatigue. Not so much since going to a plant-based diet.

”My energy level’s gone up,” the Titans’ leading tackler said. ”And it’s just putting in good fuel to your body. And of course , it’s always hard to keep weight on this time of the season. But it’s worth it for me staying on top of my health.”

Linebacker Derrick Morgan sparked the move away from meat. He and his wife – Cordon Bleu-trained chef Charity Morgan – had gone vegan for stretches, and when Morgan’s nutritionist advised him 10 months ago that veganism could help maximize his athleticism, he decided to give up meat and dairy entirely.

”He knew that dairy always didn’t agree with his body because he would have reactions when he ate it,” Charity Morgan said. ”He never thought about meat. The human brain, we’ve been taught, `Oh, we need meat. It’s protein, protein, protein.’ We both had to re-educate ourselves on what is protein.”

Having a trained chef in the house eased the transition. Charity Morgan studied plant-based meals online and began preparing dishes for her husband. By the time training camp opened, Charity Morgan was also feeding defensive lineman Jurrell Casey , a three-time Pro Bowl selection, and defensive end DaQuan Jones. Her client list grew as more teammates smelled what she had cooking.

”I broke down, tasted it, and I’ve been in ever since,” Woodyard said. ”It’s good. You start off just trying to get rid of certain things. I’ve always wanted to give up red meat. Once I got the chance to get into the vegan diet, it’s kind of like you trick your mind to eat other things, and you get used to it.”

Charity Morgan is now feeding 11 Titans – and sometimes a few wives – with more on a waiting list. She’s also dished advice to other wives about handling vegan dinners at home. Favorites have included vegan crabcakes and pea protein burgers with Charity Morgan’s own take on In-n-Out’s special sauce. The chef delivers a pair of coolers packed with food each day for practice, and she even provides breakfast burritos on game days at home.

The Titans are 8-6 and the defense ranks 13th overall in the league. With results on the field holding strong, there hasn’t been any concern about the diet from coaches or team officials.

”No, guys are still performing , guys are taking care of business,” Casey said. ”So until that falls off, then you don’t have nothing to worry about.”

Some players have found they can’t quite do vegan full-time. Jones gives himself a cheat meal of chicken once a week for the protein boost, and Casey still eats fish.

Linebacker Brian Orakpo isn’t ready for a lifestyle change, but he was a fan of the lunch Charity Morgan left for him after a recent practice. A handful of Titans even gathered for a vegan Thanksgiving meal at the Morgans in November.

Vegans or vegetarianism isn’t unheard of in the NFL. Detroit running back Ameer Abdullah switched last summer to help prolong his career – a move made easier with both his parents being vegetarian.

”It actually helps you build up a faster metabolism,” Abdullah said. ”A lot of the food is cleaner, so there’s not a lot of the gunk that there is in processed foods. You burn through it quicker, but I eat more. That’s been a positive for me for sure.”

Washington left tackle Trent Williams stuck to a vegan diet through training camp this year after studying the links between diet and disease. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman had to stop when he dropped to around 300 pounds, somewhere he hadn’t been since his freshman year of high school. He loved how much better he slept , but he had to gain that weight back to help his center of gravity.

”The only bad thing was I couldn’t maintain my weight,” Williams said.

The biggest issue for Tennessee is taste. Casey is still on the fence there, and grateful to have Charity Morgan jazzing up his meat substitutes.

”Once you get all the sauce and the seasoning off of it, the texture of the meat or the substance that’s supposed to replace it, the flavor of that is horrible,” Casey said.

For now, though, it’s tackles over tastebuds in Tennessee.

ImageNASHVILLE Authentic Brent Burns Jersey , Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Titans know everything they did wrong on their way to an embarrassing performance.

It’s good they know what they have to correct, but the Titans did nothing to improve the reputation of a franchise not even two seasons removed from the NFL’s worst record.

Now their challenge is quickly fixing mistakes from a 40-17 loss to Pittsburgh .

Article continues below ...
Maybe then, the Titans will be ready the next time they have an opportunity to prove they belong on the league’s big stage as they chase the AFC South title with six games left.

”I think that was good for our team last night, to be in that environment against a team that’s a perennial playoff team,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said Friday. ”To know that we can play with them and we can beat them in their place if we don’t turn the ball over four times and make the plays that are there when they’re there.”

Marcus Mariota had the worst game of his young career with four interceptions by a quarterback who had never been picked off more than twice in any game. Mariota now has more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (8) this season.

Mularkey blamed the first pick on his quarterback with Mariota’s second pass sailing over Rishard Matthews’ head to a defender. On the second Giants Kareem Martin Jersey , Mularkey said rookie receiver Corey Davis could’ve helped Mariota out by taking a better angle at the ball.

Titans cornerback Adoree Jackson forced a fumble by Antonio Brown that the Steelers recovered late in the first half, and Mularkey noted linebacker Wesley Woodyard just missed what might’ve been an interception off Le’Veon Bell’s shoulder. Tight end Delanie Walker dropped a touchdown pass in the end zone four days after Matthews dropped a would-be touchdown.

The Steelers sacked Mariota five times , bringing the total to nine sacks allowed over the past two games. The Titans also had nine penalties for 65 yards, their worst performance since a 16-10 loss Oct. 8 at Miami.

Even with all the sloppy play, the Titans rallied from a 10-point deficit and pulled within 23-17 with 5:34 left in the third quarter before the Steelers reeled off 17 unanswered points.

”We felt like we had a chance in that environment Seahawks Cliff Avril Jersey ,” Mularkey said. ”Kept coming back, especially after a slow start, both sides really didn’t start off the way we wanted to. Being down 10-0, I’ve been on a lot of teams that that would have been enough to say, `That’s it.’ Our guys didn’t do that. They came back and made it a game all the way through until about five minutes to go in that third quarter.”

The Titans (6-4) now trail Jacksonville (6-3) in the AFC South. Tennessee wraps up the regular season hosting the Jaguars , who play winless Cleveland on Sunday.

Their bigger challenge is the Titans still have beaten only two teams with winning records. Their next four opponents have a combined record of 11-27, so Tennessee can only improve its record if not the resume. The Titans will visit Indianapolis on Nov. 26 where the Titans still are looking for their first win in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Wide receiver Eric Decker, who caught all three passes thrown to him, said the corrections are up to the players and coaches.

”We’ll figure that out,” Decker said. ”We’ll show you guys the results.”

Notes: Mularkey said S Kevin Byard hurt a shoulder and LB Brian Orakpo got leg whipped. The coach expects both to be OK and said he would know more Monday.

COLUMBUS Authentic Braden Smith Jersey , Ohio (AP) The Washington Capitals can now turn their attention to the Pittsburgh Penguins and avenging some playoff disappointments.

The Capitals won four straight games over the Columbus Blue Jackets after fumbling the first two in overtime at home, capping their opening-round playoff series with a 6-3 victory Monday night in Game 6.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice, including his 50th playoff goal, and Braden Holtby had 35 saves to lift the Capitals, who never trailed after winning in overtime in Game 5 on Saturday. After Ovechkin’s second-period goals, Washington never relinquished a two-goal lead. Four of the games in the series went to overtime.

The Capitals will again move onto the conference semifinals after being eliminated by Pittsburgh in the second round in each of the past two seasons.

”I think we accomplished what we believed we could at the beginning of the series Authentic Cassius Marsh Jersey ,” said Holtby, who relieved a struggling Philipp Grubauer in Game 2 and was great the rest of the way. ”We’ll enjoy it a bit, rest up and prepare for the next one.”

Washington coach Barry Trotz didn’t want to talk about Pittsburgh yet.

”Please let me breathe,” he said. ”We haven’t taken a breath since this started.”

Chandler Stephenson had a goal and an assist, and Dimitry Orlov, Devante Smith-Pelly and Lars Eller also tallied Monday for Washington Saints Marcus Davenport Jersey , which never trailed in the game after prevailing in extra time in Game 5 on Saturday. The Capitals won each of the three games in Columbus.

”I do know on the road it seems like for whatever reason we’re focused, we’re driven,” Washington forward T.J. Oshie said. ”It seems like we almost like it when an opposing team’s crowd gets into it. It almost gets us going, too, and makes you want to quiet them down.”

The story for the Blue Jackets in the four-game stretch was their power-play futility. After going 4 for 8 with a man advantage in the first two games, the Blue Jackets were 0 for 16 in the last four.

”Beginning of the series Authentic Evan Longoria Jersey , our power play was going,” said Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno, who scored twice Monday. ”We were scoring at will. For whatever reason, it dried out. We’ve got to figure that out.”

Pierre-Luc Dubois also scored and Sergei Bobrovsky finished with 22 saves for the Blue Jackets, who lost in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season and fourth time overall. They remain the only active NHL franchise never to win a playoff series.

The Capitals struck first again Monday night.

Shortly after Holtby held off a Columbus barrage, Orlov got his first goal of the series when he skated into the slot and rifled a slap shot over Bobrovsky’s glove side with 7:48 left in the first.

Foligno got his first of the playoffs halfway through the second when he snapped a shot past Holtby from the right circle. That came soon after the Blue Jackets survived overlapping penalties Bengals Logan Woodside Jersey , including 32 seconds of a 5-on-3.

Ovechkin put back a rebound of a shot by Brooks Orpik to make it 2-1 with 7:10 left in the second, the 50th playoff goal of the Russian star’s career. He then gave the Caps a two-goal lead with a one-timer from the left circle on a power play.
The Blue Jackets tightened it to 3-2 early in the third when Dubois connected. But Smith-Pelly increased the Capitals’ lead again 91 seconds later. Stevenson got a short-handed goal 1 1/2 minutes later to pad it.

Foligno got the Blue Jackets to 5-3 at 8:22 in the third, but Columbus couldn’t get closer. Eller added an empty-net goal with 14 seconds left.

”It was a war out there,” Trotz said. ”It was a really strong series by them, and it forced us to the limit for sure.”

NOTES: Washington is the first team in NHL history to win a playoff series after losing each of the first two games at home in overtime. … Washington again kept the Blue Jackets’ best player Artemi Panarin off the score sheet after he had two goals and five assists in the first three playoff games… The Blue Jackets are 2-8 at home in four postseason appearances. … Ovechkin had five goals in the playoff series.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Darrius Heyward-Bey spent a rare fall weekend off traveling. That included a handful of hours in the air on Sunday afternoon Authentic Mark Walton Jersey , when the veteran Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver monitored a scoreboard that seemed to provide nothing but good news for the AFC North leaders.

Kansas City lost. So did AFC North rivals Baltimore and Cincinnati . Translation? The Steelers picked up ground in the playoff chase and within the division without so much as taking a snap. Still, it’s not like Heyward-Bey jumped into one of his team’s group chats and started spreading the word.

”We’re not looking `Oh, Kansas City lost, great,”’ Heyward-Bey said. ”Nah, they lost but we if don’t win, it don’t matter.”

Article continues below ...
Then again, losing is something Pittsburgh has rarely done in November and December lately. The Steelers (6-2) are 19-5 in the second half of the schedule since 2014. Yet each surge ended the same: with a loss on the road in the playoffs. The goal is to avoid having to leave Pittsburgh in January at all costs.

The Steelers are in prime position by largely steering clear of the early-season funk that backed them into a corner in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Sure, they responded each time. For once Authentic B.J. Hill Jersey , it’s nice that they don’t have to.

”We’re showing that sign of maturity like `Hey, if we take care of our business early, we don’t have to be biting our nails late,”’ Heyward-Bey said. ”That’s what it was last year and the year before and the year before. But we (can’t) get relaxed because we got the upper hand. It means push on the pedal.”

Pittsburgh will get a chance to do just that while facing a schedule that doesn’t look nearly as formidable now as it did three months ago. The Steelers play five of their final eight at Heinz Field, and their road games include visits to Indianapolis and Houston. Both of them, by the way, are without their starting quarterback. So is Green Bay, which will visit Pittsburgh on the last Sunday in November without Aaron Rodgers.

Yet the Steelers are careful to not get lulled into a false sense of security. Yes, they’re in good shape. Yes, they’re almost absurdly healthy Anthony Miller Super Bowl LI Jersey , especially with right tackle Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) and defensive end Stephon Tuitt (back) optimistic they’ll play against the Colts.

Still, they insist they remain a work in progress. By their own estimation, they’ve been OK but little more.

”Our team did what we’re supposed to do,” Tuitt said. ”To be in the position we are in now, we just need to finish strong.”

They navigated the first eight weeks of the season by relying heavily on running back Le’Veon Bell and a defense that is near the league lead in sacks, points allowed and swagger.

”Our identity is to give 26 (Bell) the ball and let our best players make plays when they can, and that’s a great formula of winning,” Heyward-Bey said.

A formula altered by the realities that the passing game is still a bit of an enigma. Sure, wide receiver Antonio Brown is on pace for another 100-plus receptions. But Martavis Bryant has been largely a nonfactor, and while rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster and his viral touchdown celebrations have been a revelation Adidas Claude Giroux Jersey , he doesn’t turn 21 until Nov. 22. He’s still figuring things out. So is quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has his lowest completion percentage and quarterback rating in nearly a decade.

Longtime quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner is fine with Roethlisberger’s play while allowing that the realities of 14 seasons, nearly 50,000 yards passing and 466 sacks could be starting to pile up.

”You get used to the Superman cape coming off all the time and it just hasn’t yet, maybe,” Fichtner said. ”There’s been series, there’s been plays. There’s been a lot of really unique plays made.”

Including the franchise record 97-yard flip to Smith-Schuster against Detroit that gave the Steelers the breathing room they needed to get to 6-2 at the midway point for the first time since 2011. Yet Fichtner stressed the issue isn’t Roethlisberger’s ability but the fact he’s being judged by the giddy heights of 2014 and 2015, when he led the league in yards passing per game.

”What I think everyone, including ourselves, get caught thinking is that Superman cape should be coming off every play when it doesn’t necessarily have to Wholesale Brandon Parker Jersey ,” Fichtner said. ”If we protect the ball and keep giving ourselves a chance to win, that’s the end story, the end game, is to win the game.”

And win it without worrying about style points. Bryant included. He expects to be in uniform in Indianapolis after being deactivated against the Lions as punishment for comments he made on social media about his decreased role in the offense. Heyward-Bey gets where Bryant is coming from. He also wants Bryant to get over it.

”Frustration is going to happen,” Heyward-Bey said. ”I’m frustrated. I want some playing time. But hey, I know my role and I’m fine with that; he’s going to be all right.”

CHICAGO — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo felt pressure in the pocket this week as he prepared to make his first start with his new team.

Make that pressure in the pants pocket.

“I had to put my phone away for a little while the last couple days Nathan Shepherd Super Bowl LI Jersey ,” Garoppolo said with a grin. “I’m trying to focus.”

Article continues below ...
The 26-year-old will make his first start for the 49ers and the third of his career when he and his teammates visit the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field. It is familiar territory for Garoppolo, who grew up in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Ill., and played at Rolling Meadows High School before earning a scholarship to play at Eastern Illinois.

Major college programs likely feel foolish by now for overlooking the pinpoint passer with a lightning-quick release.

The promotion of Garoppolo generated a surge of excitement during an otherwise dreary season for San Francisco (1-10). The 49ers acquired him from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick on Halloween, and Garoppolo spent the past month on the sideline learning the offense under first-year coach Kyle Shanahan.

An injury to fellow signal-caller C.J. Beathard last week opened the door for Shanahan to make the change at starter. Garoppolo came off the bench after Beathard got hurt, and he completed both of his pass attempts for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Including his time in New England behind future Hall of Famer Tom Brady Wholesale Josh Allen Jersey , Garoppolo has thrown 96 NFL passes without an interception. The NFL record belongs to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw his first 176 passes before he finally was intercepted during his rookie season in 2016.

Chicago (3-8) also has pinned its future hopes on a young quarterback with a big arm and little experience. Mitchell Trubisky will make his eighth start as he looks to rebound from a career-worst 38.3 passer rating in a 31-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Trubisky, 23, has passed for 1,135 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions since the Bears selected him No. 2 overall in the 2017 draft. San Francisco initially owned the No. 2 pick but accepted a generous package of additional draft picks from Chicago in exchange for moving one spot down to No. 3.

Is Trubisky peeved that the 49ers traded out of the No. 2 spot rather than draft him as the future franchise leader?

“I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be Troy Apke Super Bowl LI Jersey ,” Trubisky said. “I’m happy to be here in Chicago. This is where I was supposed to be.”

Yet the North Carolina product is not happy with his recent performance. He blamed poor footwork for his ugly performance against Philadelphia and vowed to improve against the 49ers. He said the Bears’ current four-game losing streak was the longest that he can remember enduring on any of his teams at any level of football.

Chicago needs a victory to avoid, at least for the moment, its fourth consecutive losing season.

“We’re just going to have to find a way to get a win this week,” Trubisky said. “There’s no getting used to it. There’s no being content. We’ve just got to work harder, stick together and find a way to win this Sunday.”

Bears running back Jordan Howard, who has 847 rushing yards and five touchdowns in his second year Wholesale Dontae Johnson Jersey , can help to stabilize the offense. During a 26-6 victory over the 49ers last season, Howard shined with 32 carries for 117 yards and three touchdowns.

Chicago ranks No. 29 in total offense and No. 12 in total defense. Defensive end Akiem Hicks leads the club with seven sacks but has not registered one in the past three games.

San Francisco ranks No. 21 in total offense and No. 29 in total defense. Veteran pass rusher Elvis Dumervil has provided a rare bright spot with a team-leading 4 1/2 sacks, and rookie first-round pick Solomon Thomas is tied for second with two sacks.

Running back Carlos Hyde leads the 49ers on the ground with 639 yards and four touchdowns. The team’s top receiver is Marquise Goodwin, who comes into this weekend with 27 catches for 578 yards and a score.

However, all eyes will be on Garoppolo as he takes command of the huddle. A strong finish to the season could only improve the likelihood that he will sign a long-term deal or receive a high-price franchise tag to stay with San Francisco beyond this season.

“I’m trying not to think about the future too much,” Garoppolo said. “I’ve learned in the past that when your mind wanders like that — quarterbacking in this league is hard enough Wholesale Vinny Curry Jersey , so when you start thinking about other things, you’re going to have a tough time. I’m staying focused on the Bears this week.

“I hold myself to a high level. I’ve been doing that my whole life. That won’t stop.”

The Winnipeg Jets will go for their fifth straight win when they visit the slumping Philadelphia Flyers for a Saturday matinee.

Winnipeg (41-17-9) is 8-2 in its last 10 games but has actually lost ground to Central Division-leading Nashville Da'Ron Payne Jersey Elite , which has won 10 straight to build a six-point margin. Still, the Jets roll into Philadelphia undefeated in the first half of a six-game road trip.

Last time out, the Jets got goals from Patrik Laine, Joel Armia and Nikolaj Ehlers, and Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves in a 3-2 win over the Devils in New Jersey.

Article continues below ...
Hellebuyck (35-10-8) passed Kari Lehtonen for the most wins in a season in Winnipeg/Atlanta Thrashers history. Lehtonen went 34-24-9 for Atlanta in 2006-07.

“Connor went through some growing pains last year and they were necessary Authentic Da'Shawn Hand Jersey ,” Jets coach Paul Maurice told “He spent the summer driven by last season and it’s great that he gets the payoff for that work he did this summer because he’s been very good for our team.”

Laine is hot as well. He scored his 39th goal of the season against New Jersey and his sixth on the current road trip. He is one behind Washington’s Alex Ovechkin for the league lead.

“I don’t even know what to say. It’s pretty funny, and pretty awesome of course. He’s a pretty good friend, and seeing him scoring the way he does right now, you kind of wish you could do that as well,” linemate Ehlers Wholesale Kevin Hogan Jersey , who got the game-winner against the Devils, told the Winnipeg Free Press.

Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov didn’t come out to start the third period against the Devils and Maurice said he is day to day with an upper body injury.

The Flyers (34-23-11) were looking at overtime in Boston on Thursday night before the Bruins’ Brad Marchand poked home a loose puck with 22 seconds left.

Jakub Voracek and Jori Lehtera scored, and Alex Lyon made 24 saves for Philadelphia, which has lost five in a row (0-4-1) and opens a three-game homestand against the Jets.

“It’s disappointing and it’s frustrating,” Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov told “I think we played real hard today Authentic Adam Lind Jersey , battled for 60 minutes. And we came up short. But it was just one of those games, you’ve got to put it in the back of your mind and move on.”

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol saw a lot of positives in the loss, which came one night after a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who now lead the Metropolitan Division.

“We took a big step in the right direction. We got back to who we are tonight,” Hakstol told the Courier Post. “Sometimes you get stripped down to your core on the back-to-backs. I thought that was the case tonight Su'a Cravens Jersey Elite , but guys dug down and played a pretty simple road game.

NEW YORK — A win over the New Jersey Devils nine days ago helped snap an extended funk by the New York Islanders. The Devils will look to return the favor Tuesday night Adidas Nikita Kucherov Jersey , when they again visit the Islanders in a matchup of Metropolitan Division rivals at Barclays Center.

The Islanders earned their third straight win Monday, when they edged the host Montreal Canadiens, 5-4, in overtime Monday. John Tavares’ goal 1:51 into the extra session ensured a yeoman-like effort by backup goalie Thomas Greiss (a career-high 52 saves) would not go for naught for New York.

The Devils suffered their season-high sixth straight loss Saturday, when they returned from their “bye week” with a 5-3 loss to the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

The mini-surge by the Islanders (23-18-4) Wholesale Ryan Switzer Jersey , which began with a 5-4 shootout win over the Devils on Jan. 7, has vaulted them out of last place in the wildly competitive Metropolitan and back into a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The win Monday lifted New York into sole possession of the second wild card in the East, one point ahead of the New York Rangers and two points ahead of the Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes.

But the Islanders, who were outshot 56-24 Monday, also know they’ll need to shore up a famously porous defense in order to sustain the winning streak. New York lost yet another defenseman Monday Baker Mayfield Super Bowl LI Jersey , when Scott Mayfield was hit in the face by a puck late in the second period and didn’t play the rest of the way. Calvin de Haan (shoulder) is likely out for the year while Johnny Boychuk (lower body) has missed eight straight games.

“Not every game’s going to be pretty,” Tavares told NBCSN following Monday’s game. “We got two points tonight. Opportunity to get better and (get back to) home (Tuesday).”

The Islanders will make up even more ground with a win Tuesday over the Devils (22-12-8), whose skid has imperiled their standing in the postseason race. New Jersey enters Tuesday third in the Metropolitan Division and just one point ahead of the first wild card, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and two points ahead of the Islanders.

Only one loss in the Devils’ losing streak — during which they’ve gone 0-3-3 — has been by more than two goals. New Jersey has held a lead in four of the six defeats.

“I think it’s about getting to our game right off the bat and having a consistent 60-minute focus Terrell Edmunds Super Bowl LI Jersey ,” Devils head coach John Hynes told reporters following practice Monday afternoon. “That’s what we’ve talked to our team about the last couple of days. That’s our challenge. It’s not so much about the Isles, it’s about us getting to our game and sticking with it and handling momentum swings better than we have the last few games.”

Hynes said No. 1 goalie Cory Schneider will make his third straight start Tuesday. Schneider took the loss Saturday, when he recorded 20 saves against the Flyers.

The Islanders are likely to turn to their No. 1 net-minder, Jaroslav Halak, in the second game of a back-to-back set. Halak earned the win Saturday Authentic Ryan Switzer Jersey , when he recorded 37 saves in a 7-2 victory over the Rangers.
