The Vikings have one of the best one-two combinations at receiver in all of football. Behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs Youth James Washington Jersey , however, it’s not clear who will step up on the depth chart in 2018.

Jarius Wright was cut, and the team signed Kendall Wright with the idea that he will replace Jarius in the slot. In a Wednesday visit to PFT Live, Diggs explained that former first-rounder Laquon Treadwell and second-year product Stacy Coley have looked good during offseason workouts.

Tight end Kyle Rudolph enhances the pass-catching corps, and Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen recently explained on the #PFTPM podcast that the Vikings have high hopes for Central Michigan fifth-round rookie tight end Tyler Conklin.

To hear everything Diggs had to say about the team’s receivers and everything else that came up, check out the video of his appearance.

Donte DiVincenzo’s plan was to come out and test the NBA draft waters this spring, with the expectation that he would be returning to Villanova for another season.

And then the national championship game happened.

The hero of Villanova’s win over Michigan picked the perfect moment to play the game of his life – 31 points on 10 for 15 shooting, five 3-pointers, five rebounds, one epic wink as the Wildcats put the game away. That’s what probably got him an invite to the Draft Combine, the event where DiVincenzo saw how he might fit at the NBA level.

His name will likely be called in the first round on Thursday night, guaranteed millions set to come his way. Not bad for a kid who came off the bench for most of his college career and wasn’t even picked as a Big East first-teamer, second-teamer or even honorable mention this past season. He did get recognized by the league as its top sixth man after a season where he averaged 13.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

”When I get into a system, I’m so worried about the team,” DiVincenzo said. ”I’m not worried about the numbers. I’m just worried about one Ryan Johansen Jersey , winning and two, the impact I have on a team whether it’s in the locker room or on the court. If I can do anything to help the team, then I’ll do that. That’s what I tried to do at Villanova this past year.”

His numbers at the combine were probably as eye-popping as what he did in the national title game. No one at the combine in Chicago last month had a higher vertical leap than DiVincenzo – 42 inches with a running start, 34 1/2 inches when standing. He also impressed scouts with his shooting ability, and didn’t need long to decide that his best move was to stay in the draft.

Some may have been surprised by his numbers in Chicago. Nova Nation was not.

”He works his butt off and he deserves all this,” said now-former Villanova guard Jalen Brunson, The Associated Press’ national player of the year this past season who’s also in this draft. ”And just to see where he’s come from since us rooming together freshman year to seeing how his work ethic has gotten better every day … he just goes at everybody. He just has that mindset that he’s a killer. And that’s what makes him special.”

There’s a price of fame, in that it also comes with a much higher level of scrutiny – which put DiVincenzo in a tough spot after the national championship game. While the Wildcats were celebrating and he was being named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, some of his old tweets were creating headlines as well.

Those posts, mostly from between 2011 through 2013, included racially insensitive and homophobic comments. DiVincenzo’s account, which had been dormant since 2016, was shut down not long afterward.

”It’s crazy, good and bad,” DiVincenzo said when asked if he was surprised how much more attention he’s gotten since the national championship game. ”Everything with the Twitter thing that came out, that was bad. But people who know me http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-da_ron-payne-jersey , people who know who I am, they understand that’s not me. I just try to carry myself as more than just a basketball player.”

If teams had reservations about his tweeting choices from years ago, their concerns seem to be satisfied. DiVincenzo came away from the combine process convinced that he’ll be a first-rounder.

”Donte has handled this process intelligently and received very positive feedback from the NBA teams about his prospects in this year’s draft,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said last month when DiVincenzo opted to stay in the draft. ”We fully support this decision.”

He has some interesting nicknames.

For a while teammates called him Buddy Hield, because when the Wildcats were getting ready to play Oklahoma in the 2016 Final Four – a 44-point national semifinal romp for Villanova – DiVincenzo’s role in practice was to mimic the game of the Sooners’ star. And once in practice, where DiVincenzo was apparently showboating, Wright dubbed him ”the Michael Jordan of Delaware.”

Truth be told, Wright doesn’t remember that exchange with the Delaware native.

”He said I said it to him facetiously in his freshman year when he was acting like a superstar and I said to him: `You act like you’re the Michael Jordan of Delaware,”’ Wright said.

Those days are gone, regardless.

DiVincenzo might be going to Jordan’s league, but he knows that he still has plenty to prove – to others, and himself.

”Even if I work out by myself, I try to always prove something and not try to prove that I’m good or not trying to prove that I’m athletic,” DiVincenzo said. ”I try to prove that there’s something deeper in me and that I’m just scratching the surface right now. I try to get better every single day and that’s what I’m trying to prove – that I’m getting better, that nothing will stop me from getting better.”

Still in bed when his girlfriend told him the Chicago Bears made a huge trade for two-time All-Pro Khalil Mack http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-byron-maxwell-jersey , left tackle Charles Leno Jr. didn't quite believe it at first.

Once it sunk in, he ran down to the basement.

Leno turned on the camera, cranked up Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mack" and started dancing. The video he posted on social media of himself pretty much sums up the mood around the Bears.

"We're trying to win," Leno said Monday. "We're not settling to be last in the pack. We're trying to win and win games here, change the culture of the organization."

The Bears drove that point home Saturday with a blockbuster trade for one of the NFL's best pass rushers. Chicago also made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history with a six-year, $141 million extension that guarantees $90 million.

Mack practiced for the first time Monday after holding out the entire offseason and preseason trying to get a new deal with Oakland rather than play under the final year of his rookie contract.

Coach Matt Nagy said the Bears will monitor his conditioning this week before deciding whether he plays in the opener.

Chicago visits Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. And that primetime matchup sure has some added intrigue.

"I hope that everyone's excited, our fan base is excited," general manager Ryan Pace said. "I know our organization is excited."

The trade for Mack finished off a busy offseason in which Chicago changed coaches and gave quarterback Mitchell Trubisky some new playmakers, including former Jacksonville Pro Bowl receiver Allen Robinson.

Adding the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year to an already solid defense ratcheted up a building buzz around a team with four straight last-place finishes in the NFC North. Whether the Bears can leap to a playoff spot, they are at least in the conversation.

"There's certain moves that are power moves and there's certain moves that say 'hey, we're all in,'" defensive end Akiem Hicks said. "And I think that's one of those moves."

With 40陆 sacks in four seasons, Mack figures to have a huge impact on a defense that ranked 10th overall last season.

Hicks had visions of "a lot more one on ones" with teams doubling up on the Bears' new star pass rusher. And cornerback Prince Amukamara was seeing more opportunities for interceptions with quarterbacks under pressure.

"I would say the clock in the quarterback's head is I'm sure going to be a lot shorter," he said.

He also praised the front office for a "great job of due diligence."

And guard Kyle Long said: "Our defense just got a lot tougher. And we get to practice against a tougher defense now, and that's going to be great for us."

The trade also emphasizes just how serious management is about turning around a struggling franchise.

The Bears have just one playoff appearance since the 2006 team reached the Super Bowl, and the most recent time they had a winning record was in 2012. Chicago fired coach Lovie Smith after that season, replaced him with Marc Trestman and went 8-8 the following year.

Since then, it's been nothing but last-place finishes in the division and frustration for the fan base. But the past few days?

"It's been very exciting," Nagy said. "Probably the time I think about it the most is when I'm in my car, driving home. That's really when you can just get away from everybody and everything and you can just kinda sit back and realize where you're at. Collectively Blake Martinez Jersey , it's everybody. It's an exciting situation for us as a team, as a city, as an organization."

NOTES: Nagy said there's a "good chance" LG Eric Kush starts over James Daniels against Green Bay. ... Nagy expects OLB Leonard Floyd 鈥?who practiced Monday with a club on his broken right hand 鈥?to play in the opener. Floyd broke his hand at Denver on Aug. 18. "I feel good that he'll be playing," Nagy said. ... QB Tyler Bray and WR Tanner Gentry were among the 10 players signed to the practice squad. Both were let go by Chicago on Saturday.

The Baltimore Ravens' unyielding effort to land a big-play receiver finally paid off Friday when nine-year veteran Michael Crabtree signed a three-year contract.

Hours after disclosing that the Ravens voided the contract of Washington Redskins wide receiver Ryan Grant following a failed physical, general manager Ozzie Newsome landed Crabtree, who played the past three seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

Crabtree toured the Ravens' complex Friday morning and signed in the late afternoon.

"I always imagined myself being a Raven when I was little," Crabtree said. "I came here, loved it and signed on the dotted line."

In two games over the past two years with Oakland, the former 49ers star scorched Baltimore for 13 catches for 170 yards and four touchdowns.

Facing the Ravens in the 2012 Super Bowl, Crabtree had five receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown for San Francisco in a 34-31 loss.

"Michael has played very well against the Ravens, so we know firsthand the attributes he brings to the game," Newsome said. "He is a smart, tough, physical receiver who battles for the ball. We like his temperament and believe he is a good fit for our football team, on and off the field."

The 30-year-old Crabtree played six seasons with San Francisco before joining the Raiders. He has 579 career receptions for 6,870 yards and 51 touchdowns in 125 career games.

The 6-1, 215-pound Crabtree has totaled at least 85 catches in a season three times, including a career-high 89 in 2016. He has twice surpassed 1,000 yards receiving in a season.

Crabtree joins former Arizona receiver John Brown as new potential targets for quarterback Joe Flacco, who directed a lackluster passing attack that last year ranked 27th in the NFL.

Almost as soon as the Ravens cleared out their lockers following a 9-7 finish in 2017 Carolina Panthers Jerseys Womens , Newsome set out to improve the weakest facet of a team that's missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.

"If you dial it back to a year ago, we talked about how we wanted to get our defense stronger, and we did that. Then we said we wanted to run the football and we were able to do that," Newsome said Friday morning, speaking with Brown at his side. "The next piece is to get a better passing game. If we give Joe some weapons, and we improve in the passing game, maybe that will be enough to help us get over the hump."

Newsome said he withdrew Grant's four-year contract offer following the exam and after consulting with team doctors and outside physicians.

"That's not a football decision," Newsome said. "That's a medical condition that I have no control over."

Though Grant never missed a game in his four years with the Redskins, Newsome said the physical found an issue with his ankle.

"We knew he had had an ankle injury in the latter part of the season with the Redskins," Newsome said. "But he had passed their postseason physical, so we had no indication that it could have been there."

Brown played four seasons with Arizona before signing a one-year contract this week with Baltimore.

"The thing about John is, he can take the top off of the defense," Newsome said. "A lot of times when you go with a vertical receiver, they have a very limited route tree. John does not. John can run every route in the route tree. The other aspect of this that attracted John to us is that we feel like his best football is still in front of him."

Brown, two years removed from a 1,000-yard season, expects to ring up big numbers with Baltimore.

"I felt like this was the best fit for me," he said. "They like to use a lot of receivers with speed. I feel like I can come in and help this team."

Newsome said he "has not closed the door" on re-signing receivers Michael Campanaro and Mike Wallace, and has been "having conversations" with several tight ends.

Allen added 591.

As a rookie last season Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey had 117 carries for 435 yards and two touchdowns. This year the Panthers see McCaffrey getting a bigger workload.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera told ESPN.com he wouldn’t be surprised if McCaffrey reached 200 carries this season. That matches what Rivera said in June, when he said he’s looking forward to seeing McCaffrey run between the tackles more, as he did in college.

McCaffrey is looking bigger and stronger this offseason, which might help him carry a bigger load. Although C.J. Anderson has arrived and will take over some of the running workload, McCaffrey is likely to be the starting running back.

The 22-year-old McCaffrey also caught 80 passes and returned 22 punts and three kickoffs last season, so if he keeps up that production in the passing game and on special teams, he could be looking at a 300-touch season in 2018. That’s what the Panthers envisioned when they drafted McCaffrey, and that’s what they want to see this season.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Five years removed from a Super Bowl championship, the Baltimore Ravens bring a sense of urgency into the 2018 season.

Much has happened — little of it good — since general Ozzie Newsome, coach John Harbaugh and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco teamed to beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in January 2013.

Since then, the Ravens have gone 40-40, had two winning seasons and reached the playoffs once. Baltimore was on the brink of earning a wild-card berth last December before a last-minute defeat at home against Cincinnati put an abrupt end to a 9-7 season.

So now, Harbaugh is being pressed to reverse the team’s recent downturn. He isn’t necessary done if Baltimore doesn’t reach the playoffs, yet there’s no guarantee he will survive the inevitable fallout.

“I’m not going to give a ‘playoff or bust’ edict to my coach,” owner Steve Bisciotti said. “(But) he’s under as much pressure, probably, than he’s ever been in his life. I expect him to keep his chin up and take his positivity and his talents and make the most of this season.”

Newsome will be handing the reins to assistant GM Eric DeCosta in 2019 Elias Lindholm Jersey , so the only GM the Ravens have ever had is doing his best to go out with a splash. Newsome signed several free agent receivers to help out the 33-year-old Flacco, who struggled last season and now has an eager rookie chasing him on the depth chart.

There’s also a new defensive coordinator in Don Martindale, whose goal is to make the unit representative of the region.

“I think this defense is starting to take along the personality of the city, like all the great Ravens defenses do, from Dundalk to West Baltimore to Carroll County,” Martindale said. “I like how we’re coming together. I like how we’re not flinching.”

No need to be tentative. Not now. Without a doubt, the Ravens will be in full attack mode in their effort to reach the postseason.

Some things to know about the 2018 Ravens:

ROOKIE QB

First-round pick Lamar Jackson could be the Ravens quarterback of the future, but he most certainly is not the quarterback of right now.

Flacco has been the starter since 2008, his rookie season and Harbaugh’s first as Baltimore’s coach.

Jackson won a Heisman Trophy at Louisville and is deft on his feet, but Baltimore is past the point of letting a rookie QB gain experience on the job.

Jackson will make the team, but the big question is: Will Robert Griffin III also land on the 53-man roster?

“That’s one that’s going to go right to the wire,” Harbaugh said, “and it will be dependent on a lot of factors.”

PLENTY OF TARGETS

Flacco will be working with a rebuilt receiving group after struggling last season getting the ball downfield.

Jeremy Maclin, Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman repeatedly failed to get separation last year, one big reason why Flacco finished with a meager 5.72 yards per attempt average.

So Newsome attacked the free agent market, signing Michael Crabtree, Willie Snead and John Brown.

“All of them have had just an excellent camp,” offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. “All three of them have stayed healthy http://www.texansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-martinas-rankin-jersey , or reasonably healthy. They’re all three very smart guys.”

Brown gives the Ravens the deep threat they’ve been missing since Torrey Smith in 2013. Crabtree is solid in the middle of the field, and Snead has good hands and big-play potential.

RUN FIRST

In a league that’s built for passing, the Ravens have always been about establishing the run.

With Marshal Yanda, Ronnie Stanley, James Hurst and 345-pound Orlando Brown Jr. on the line, Flacco won’t be reluctant to give the ball to Alex Collins.

Collins rushed for 973 yards last year and Javorius Allen added 591.

NO JIMMY SMITH

The Ravens must play the first four games of the season without standout cornerback Jimmy Smith, who was suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Playing without Smith is nothing new — he missed the last four games last year with a torn Achilles tendon and has played in 16 games only twice in seven seasons.

“We feel confident in who we have in the personnel,” cornerback Brandon Carr said. “We’re just looking forward to getting guys on the field to see how they perform out there.”

INJURIES

In addition to Smith, the Ravens will start the season without tight end Hayden Hurst, who had foot surgery, and defensive tackle Willie Henry (hernia surgery).

Hurst, Baltimore’s top draft pick, will miss around three weeks and Henry will be sidelined “a few weeks,” according to Harbaugh.

Hurst was expected to take over for departed tight end Benjamin Watson, who led Baltimore with 61 catches last year.

Henry played in 14 games last year before a thigh injury ended his season in November. He had 32 tackles and 3½ sacks.

One of two people charged with misdemeanors for unfurling a banner protesting the Dakota Access pipeline from the rafters of U.S. Bank Stadium during a Minnesota Vikings game has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Thirty-four-year-old Karl Zimmermann Mayo http://www.billsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jeremy-kerley-jersey , of Minneapolis, entered the plea for creating a public nuisance Monday in Hennepin County District Court. Misdemeanor counts of trespassing and burglary were dismissed. The Star Tribune says he'll serve a year of probation and perform 30 hours of community service.

The other person who climbed to the rafters to unleash the banner, 28-year-old Sen Holiday, is currently on trial after she pleaded not guilty to the same misdemeanors.

The banner urged Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank to divest from the $3.8 billion pipeline. Fans seated below the banner were evacuated.

This story has been corrected to show that Sen Holiday is a woman, not a man.

Edmonton Oilers CEO and vice chair Bob Nicholson still has full confidence in general manager Peter Chiarelli.

The same can’t exactly be said for head coach Todd McLellan and his staff.

Nicholson addressed reporters in Edmonton on Thursday and stated that he believes Chiarelli, also president of hockey operations, is still the right guy to lead the Oilers’ front office and isn’t going anywhere – despite Edmonton missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons under his guidance.

However, when asked about McLellan or his assistants returning for 2018-19 Brian Allen Color Rush Jersey , Nicholson would only say the organization still has some thinking to do heading into the offseason.

”We will have a plan coming out in the near future with how we are moving forward,” Nicholson said. ”I think we want to do an evaluation and make the decisions we think are right. We are going through the process with not just the coaches, but everyone within hockey operations and (Oilers Entertainment Group) staff.

”It’s all being evaluated.”

The Oilers entered the 2017-18 season with high expectations, but things quickly went downhill after they started 3-6-1 in October and chased the pack the rest of the way.

Despite another strong outing from superstar forward Connor McDavid – who earned his second straight league scoring title – the Oilers had a 25-point drop in the standings from the previous season, when they made the playoffs for the first time since 2006 with 105 points.

Edmonton finished 23rd this season with a 36-40-6 record. The Oilers were 25th in goals against, last on the power play and 25th on the penalty kill.

Nicholson plans to discuss coaches with Chiarelli, but says the GM will have the most input in any coaching changes.

”On the whole it was a challenge for our coaches this year,” Chiarelli told reporters in Edmonton on Wednesday. ”I think Todd is a very good coach http://www.jaguarscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-jalen-ramsey-jersey , but we’re in a period of evaluation right now with him and his staff. Certainly we didn’t perform the way we expected.”

Nicholson hired Chiarelli in April 2015 after he was let go by the Boston Bruins. Chiarelli brought in McLellan only a month later to be Edmonton’s sixth coach since 2010. Despite regressing in numerous ways over the course of a season, Nicholson is optimistic in Chiarelli’s vision.

”Yes we had a down year, but I really believe when I talk to Peter he has a plan to get us back in the playoffs next year,” Nicholson said. ”Our goal is to make the playoffs next year.”

Nicholson mentioned that he’s met with season ticket holders that are frustrated with the organization. He also says team owner Daryl Katz is: ”disappointed, angered and wants us to get it right.”

McLellan is 114-109-23 in three seasons with Edmonton.

Nicholson won’t hint at when an announcement on the coaching staff will be made.

”From my own personal side of it I’m not a person that’s going to rush it, we’ll announce it when we are ready,” Nicholson said. ”I’m not going to put a timeline on it.”

Chicago Bears first-year coach Matt Nagy is showing he can take the heat Julius Peppers Jersey , and it has nothing to do with sultry late August weather at Monday's practice.

Nagy made a controversial call Saturday to sit starters during a preseason game normally used as an opening-day dress rehearsal, and second-guessers have been attacking since the end of a 27-20 Bears victory over Kansas City.

"They're at a point now where the physical part of (practice) is going to continue, but it's really now you start game-planning," Nagy said.

In part because he wanted to keep players healthy for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at Green Bay, and also because they've practiced a week longer than most teams, Nagy decided against a customary tuneup game in the next-to-last preseason game.

Starters weren't available after Saturday's game since they hadn't played, but safety Adrian Amos on Monday viewed Nagy's approach as anything, but half-baked preparation for the start of the regular season.

"The plan is always to go out there and execute, to hit the ground running," Amos said. "It's not dip your toe in the water or anything like that."

Starters won't play Thursday in the preseason finale against Buffalo, which is normal procedure.

"The focus for them right now is mentally they can finally just say, 'you know what? I can go all-in on Green Bay and mentally just get prepared, soak it up, don't worry at all about Buffalo Womens Jameis Winston Jersey ," Nagy said.

Nagy's concern over injuries hit home with players.

"It's a smart decision, seeing that he doesn't want us to get injured," running back Tarik Cohen said. "Big season for us. We're optimistic about how this season is going to turn out. So we want everybody healthy."

Wide receiver Allen Robinson had only to look at former Jacksonville teammate Marqise Lee for an example of what can happen. Lee suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third preseason game Saturday against Atlanta.

"Definitely for me, for that being one of my close friends, that was very tough to see," Robinson said. "Yeah, definitely at the end of the day, like I said before, coach Nagy has the best interests for us players and this team."

Not every player immediately understood the decision.

"There were mixed feelings," Cohen said. "Some people wanted to play, some people needed the time off to heal their bodies and focus in more mentally."

The greatest concern is whether a team lacking experience with Nagy's offense has logged sufficient game time to make it work.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has 12 NFL starts and none in this offense, so it's easy to see how another preseason effort would benefit timing on his passes.

"Obviously he's ready and well prepared," Robinson said. "We've done a really good job throughout the course of camp getting all the reps and stuff that we needed; maybe reps in between periods, getting some reps after periods Matthew Stafford Jersey White , and things like that. So I think we're all real prepared."

Another issue is whether the offensive line and the defense can be physically ready with less full-speed contact than during a normal preseason.

Guard Kyle Long called going every day against the Bears defensive line sufficient preparation, even if most training camp work is not full speed.

"We're playing against human beings in practice," Long said. "And Akiem Hicks is pretty big and strong 鈥?you can't really simulate getting hit by a Mack truck."

Players think the decision indicates something about their new coach's personality and resolve.

"He doesn't care about what everybody else is going to think," Cohen said. "He's just looking out for our best interests and the team's best interest.

"And that's the type of coach you want on your side."

NOTES: Offensive tackle Bradley Sowell suffered an ankle sprain Saturday. The Bears hadn't updated his status after he was helped from the field during the game. ... Linebacker Roquan Smith continued to be very limited in practice because of hamstring tightness. ... The Bears re-arranged their Halas Hall locker grouping in an effort to improve team unity. They formerly grouped players' lockers together according to roster positions. It's jumbled now. "The philosophy between that is that you put big guys next to small guys, you put loud guys next to quiet guys, you put leaders next to non-leaders, offense vs. defense, center vs. D tackle," Nagy said.

Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat during the national anthem.

Lynch declined to stand for the anthem before the exhibition opener against the Detroit Lions on Friday night. Lynch also sat for the anthem all of last season but never gave a reason for his decision.

No other players on either team demonstrated during the anthem, with the Lions all standing together with locked arms.

The league and the players' union have yet to announce a policy for this season regarding demonstrations during the anthem after the league initially ordered everyone to stand on the sideline when "The Star-Spangled Banner" is played, or remain in the locker room.

Several players throughout the league demonstrated on Thursday night. President Donald Trump lashed out against them earlier Friday, claiming on Twitter that "most of them are unable to define" what they're demonstrating against.

HOUSTON (AP) — A season so promising just a few short weeks ago is on the verge of falling apart for the Houston Texans.

One of only three winless teams in the NFL Authentic Artturi Lehkonen Jersey , the Texans are desperate to get a victory on Sunday against the Colts and try to salvage their season.

“We have to win this game,” safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “We just have to win.”

After going 4-12 last season, the Texans had high expectations entering this year with the return of stars J.J. Watt and Deshaun Watson, who both missed big chunks of last season with injuries.

Instead three straight close losses have the Texans searching for ways to escape the NFL’s basement.

“These are close games and it’s the team that doesn’t beat themselves that ends up winning, and we’ve been beating ourselves too much,” coach Bill O’Brien said.

It is Houston’s worst start since opening the 2008 season 0-4. If you add the six games they lost to end the 2017 season, the Texans have lost nine straight. It has been more than 10 months since they won a game with their last victory coming against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 19.

Watt said the importance of ending the skid this week can’t be overstated.

“We have to,” he said. “We don’t have one. Haven’t had one in a long time so we really need to get a win. It’s very tough opponent, a very tough place to play so we have to go on the road and put our best foot forward.”

The Colts aren’t doing much better than Houston this season and enter the game 1-2. But the Texans haven’t had much success against Indianapolis and have a 7-25 record in 32 meetings. They’ve had even more trouble in Indianapolis where they’ve won just twice in 16 visits.

Despite their struggles, O’Brien isn’t worried about the psyche of his team and knows that getting a win against an AFC South opponent will go a long way toward getting things on the right track.

“We’ve only played one divisional game Cheap Customized Green Bay Packers Jerseys ,” he said. “We’ve got a big one this week. So, we just have to keep grinding. There’s no other way out of it. There’s no choice. I think when you have the role that I have, it’s easy. There’s no choice. You have to go to work and you have to figure it out.”

For Watson, trying to end a skid is a new experience. Watson, who helped Clemson to a national title in the 2016 season, lost just two games combined in his last two seasons in college. He said this stretch has already taught him some lessons.

“Just dealing with adversity,” he said. “Try to take the good with the bad and really dig down each and every week to find out what the problem is.”

The problem, according to Watson and O’Brien is not paying attention to details. The Texans rank eighth in the NFL by averaging 396.3 yards a game, but are tied for 22nd in scoring with just 19.7 points a game in part because of an excessive amount of penalties and negative plays in the red zone.

Houston’s three losses have been by a combined 15 points, giving the Texans hope that if they tighten a few things up they’ll be able to get over the hump and into the win column this week.

“We’re not that far off Brock Boeser Jersey ,” Mathieu said. “We just have to do better at preparing, building up throughout the week and then on gameday, starting fast and then finishing strong. So, if we can do those things and if our five-star players could play like five-star players, then we’ll be good.”

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden says wide receiver Josh Doctson is OK after landing hard on his left shoulder.

Gruden said Thursday ”everything checked out fine” after an evaluation. The third-year receiver is expected to be held out of at least one practice, but Gruden insisted it’s not a problem.

Doctson got tangled up with cornerback Josh Norman during red-zone drills at training camp Thursday and left with trainers. He posted on Twitter that he was OK.

Achilles’ tendon soreness robbed the 2016 first-round pick of most of his rookie season. But he played every game last year and had 35 catches for 502 yards and six touchdowns. Even with the addition of Paul Richardson, the Redskins expect significant contributions from Doctson with new quarterback Alex Smith.

LOS ANGELES — A four-time All-Star who has finished in the top five of the Cy Young Award voting three times Customized Carolina Panthers Jerseys , Jon Lester looks to be getting even better in his 13th major league season.

And it leaves the Chicago Cubs with no better pitcher to stop a losing streak that was extended to five games Monday with a 2-1 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lester will try for his sixth consecutive victory when he faces the Dodgers on Tuesday night in the second game of the four-game series. He will square off against the Dodgers’ Ross Stripling, who had his own six-game streak come to an end last week in Chicago

The Lester-Stripling matchup is the second one in a span of six days.

Lester not only has a 1.64 ERA over his five-start win streak, he has pitched at least six innings in seven consecutive starts and has a 1.67 ERA over his last 12 outings.

“(Lester) is just slowing the game down,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said before Monday’s game in L.A. “He has gone to another level of maturation pitching-wise so I have really been enjoying watching him go about his business.”

Stripling is only in his third major league season, but he has shown an increased maturity level on the field as well this year. With the Dodgers in need of somebody to step up in the wake of a number of injuries to the starting staff, the right-hander made an easy transition from a bullpen role to rotation workhorse.

Stripling (6-2, 1.99) was not terrible in his outing against the Cubs last week, Lester was just better. The right-hander gave up three runs to the Cubs on eight hits with seven strikeouts over six innings. He sounded eager for a rematch.

“We’ve faced these guys in the playoffs the last two years, and it’s a lineup we’re really familiar with, and they’re familiar with us Johan Larsson Jersey ,” Stripling said after Wednesday’s defeat, according to mlb.com. “We’re right there with this team, and we know that.”

Lester (9-2, 2.10) held the Dodgers to just five hits in his scoreless outing Wednesday as the Cubs closed out a series victory. It is the only series the Dodgers have lost since the middle of May when they were in Miami.

Not only are the Dodgers 16-5 in June, they have 48 home runs in the month after hitting two Monday and nine in their past two games. Since a May 17 victory in Miami, the Dodgers are 26-9.

As good as the Cubs have been since the start of the 2015 season, winning at Dodger Stadium has proved difficult. They are just 2-8 in L.A. in that time, while going a baseball-best 334-226 in that same stretch. They did go 2-1 in L.A. while winning the 2016 National League Championship Series.

The Dodgers’ Enrique Hernandez has three home runs in two games and has six in his last 13 games. He is expected to be in the starting lineup Tuesday against the lefty Lester. Hernandez, the Dodgers’ super-utility player, has a career .874 OPS against left-handed pitching.

The pool of competitors for playing time in the Cowboys wide receiver corps appears to be a little shallower.

Sixth-round pick Cedrick Wilson injured his shoulder during Saturday’s practice and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports it is believed that Wilson tore his labrum. Wilson is set for more tests to determine next steps http://www.49ersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-fred-warner-jersey , but, if the diagnosis is accurate, seems likely to miss a good chunk of time under any circumstances.

Wilson caught 139 passes for 2,640 yards and 18 touchdowns in his two seasons at Boise State and was one of two receivers drafted by the Cowboys this year.

Third-rounder Michael Gallup was the other one and he joins Tavon Austin, Allen Hurns, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley and Deonte Thompson and Noah Brown as other options at wideout in Dallas this season.

Gonzales has thrown a career-high 142 2/3 innings

SEATTLE (AP) — For a welcome change http://www.chicagocubsteamshop.com/authentic-ryne-sandberg-jersey , the Los Angeles Dodgers made the job easy for manager Dave Roberts after a stretch of close games and debatable moves.Manny Machado hit two of Los Angeles’ five home runs, Walker Buehler allowed one run in six innings, and the Dodgers routed the Seattle Mariners 11-1 to open a key three-game series on Friday night. The Dodgers won consecutive games for just the third time since July 28, using the long ball to knock around Seattle starter Wade LeBlanc and for a night take the pressure off their shaky bullpen. It was the Los Angeles bats leading the way, hitting at least five homers in a game for the sixth time this season.“It was a nice change, but those guys, the offense, they were due to break out,” Roberts said.Machado’s first homer led off the fourth inning and was his third since being acquired in a trade with Baltimore. He added a two-run shot in the seventh inning to deep left-center field, where it caromed off the hand of a fan wearing an Orioles jersey with Machado’s name across the back.Machado has 28 homers overall this season and Roberts said his shortstop feels more comfortable now batting third in the Dodgers’ lineup with Justin Turner moving into the No. 2 spot.“I’m not going to say I wasn’t hitting because I was hitting second,” Machado said. “It just happened to be I finally locked myself in and went back to what got me here. It just happened I went back to (hitting) third as well.”Yasmani Grandal, Max Muncy and Matt Kemp also went deep as Los Angeles added to its National League-leading home run total. Kemp’s homer was his first since July 22. The Dodgers have 169 homers this season.LeBlanc (7-3) allowed seven runs, five earned Billy Williams Jersey , and lasted just 4 1/3 innings.“I made a few mistakes, got away with a couple of them, and three of them I didn’t,” LeBlanc said. “That’s what happens when you run into a good lineup like they have. That’s what they do with mistakes. Especially with stuff like I have, if you’re going to make them against guys like that, they’re going to make you pay.”A long seventh inning at the plate for Los Angeles spelled an early end for Buehler, who was dominant through the first six. Buehler (6-4) allowed just Ryon Healy’s home run leading off the fourth inning. The young right-hander struck out eight and allowed just three hits.Seattle threatened only once when Buehler lost command of his fastball and loaded the bases with one out in the third inning. Buehler got Denard Span to hit a weak grounder and Mitch Haniger was forced out at home plate. Kyle Seager flew out to end the threat.Buehler and two relievers combined to retire 14 straight batters after Healy’s homer until pinch-hitter Gordon Beckham’s two-out single in the eighth.ROTATION CHANGESSeattle is making two changes to its rotation. The first was expected, with Felix Hernandez moving back into the rotation to start for injured lefty James Paxton on Monday when Houston visits to open a key three-game series. The other move was a bit of a surprise with Seattle pushing Marco Gonzales back a few days. Gonzales was slated to start Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers, but will instead start the series finale against Houston next Wednesday. Seattle’s starter for Sunday has yet to be announced.Manager Scott Servais said with upcoming off days Seattle had a chance to push Gonzales back and essentially give him one start over the next few weeks. Gonzales has thrown a career-high 142 2/3 innings already this season.TRAINER’S ROOMDodgers: RHP Erik Goeddel was placed on the 10-day disabled list with elbow inflammation on Friday. It’s his second stint on the DL in just the past few weeks. Goeddel was activated off the disabled list last Monday after missing time with a lat injury. The Dodgers reinstated right-handed reliever Daniel Hudson from the 10-day DL to take his spot. Hudson had been out since Aug. 7 with forearm tightness.Mariners: SS Jean Segura was placed on the paternity list on Friday. Seattle selected IF Gordon Beckham from Triple-A Tacoma to take Segura’s roster spot.UP NEXTDodgers: Rich Hill (5-4) looks to remain perfect in his career against Seattle. Hill has appeared in 11 games with four starts against Seattle and is 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA. He hasn’t faced the Mariners since the 2016 season.Mariners: Erasmo Ramirez (0-2) tries to follow up on a strong outing last week in Houston. Ramirez threw five shutout innings allowing just four hits in a no-decision. DETROIT (AP) Miguel Cabrera can now say it with a good deal of certainty: Baseball is harder than it looks on TV.”It’s so easy when you watch the game on TV. It’s so slow,” the Detroit slugger said. ”The game is so simple on TV.”It’s not nearly as simple on the field, of course, and right now all Cabrera can do is watch. The Tigers lost their star first baseman in the middle of June to a ruptured biceps tendon, and he’s out for the season. Detroit was in a rebuilding mode anyway http://www.chicagocubsteamshop.com/authentic-jon-lester-jersey , but losing one of the team’s top hitters was a significant blow.Cabrera was back at Comerica Park on Monday night to host an event supporting children’s health and youth baseball programs. He seemed to be feeling good, but he has a long way to go before playing again.”Right now it’s a little slow,” Cabrera said. ”Hopefully in a couple weeks I starting do more stuff, to be healthy again.”Cabrera said he goes back and forth between Michigan and Florida, and he thinks he’s making good progress toward being ready for spring training next year. The two-time American League MVP is 35 now, and this was supposed to be a crucial year for the veteran to show if he could still be one of the game’s most feared hitters after a poor showing in 2017.Instead, Cabrera has played only 38 games after never playing fewer than 119 in his previous decade with the Tigers.”Really hard, watch the games on TV. It’s really hard don’t be on the field with my teammates. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose. I want to be part of this process,” Cabrera said. ”Right now, I’m focused to be back next year and healthy.”Cabrera’s big contract extends through at least 2023, which means Detroit may have a hard time trading him as part of its rebuild. In 2016, he hit .316 with 38 home runs and 108 RBIs – his eighth straight year finishing in the AL’s top seven in batting average. Then last season, he hit .249 with only 16 homers and an unsightly .399 slugging percentage. There were some decent signs early this year. Cabrera hit .299 with a .395 on-base percentage. But he had only three home runs. He was hitting .323 when he went on the disabled list in early May with a hamstring strain . He came back June 1 Fergie Jenkins Jersey , but his bat was quiet from then until his season-ending injury June 12.Cabrera’s absence has left a big hole in the lineup, and Detroit has backup catcher John Hicks playing first base quite a bit in his place.Only six players have reached both 500 home runs and 3,000 hits, and with 465 homers and 2,676 hits, Cabrera still has a good chance to join that group if he can come back and play several more seasons. His pursuit of those milestones is on hold now, though. And Detroit fans can only wonder how effective he’ll be going forward.Cabrera was cheerful Monday night and quick with a laugh, but it’s clear that being out of action is tough for him.”I can’t describe what I’m feeling right now,” Cabrera said. ”I need to stay focused, mentally stay focusing on trying to be back healthy next year.”—
