After trading up to acquire Alabama linebacker Rashaan Evans in the first round and Boston College outside linebacker Harold Landry in the second round, the Titans won't make another selection until Saturday's fifth round.

could get 10 percent interest.

The Dolphins are sufficiently interested in drafting a first-round quarterback that they’re doing some damage control with their current quarterback.

As they consider the possibility of taking a quarterback Mikkel Boedker Jersey , and perhaps even moving into the top 10 to get one, the Dolphins told Ryan Tannehill that they’re committed to him as their starting quarterback in 2018 even if they draft another quarterback, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Realistically, however, if the Dolphins draft a first-round quarterback, their actions say they’re ready to move on from Tannehill. Although Tannehill could start another season with a rookie behind him, just as Alex Smith did in Kansas City last year Zach Miller Jersey , it would signal that Tannehill is on the way out, just as Smith was traded by Kansas City this year.

Whether a quarterback falls to the Dolphins at No. 11, or whether they move up to get one, the mere fact that they have to assure Tannehill he’s their starter in 2018 suggests that there’s a good chance he won’t be their starter in 2019.

Browns defensive end Carl Nassib needs to work on more than his pass rushing skills in training camp.

His grandma wants him to clean up his language.

Nassib became a breakout star of the first episode this season of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series, which is documenting Cleveland's training camp this summer. In last week's premiere, Nassib, who has earned a reputation for being outspoken during his three seasons with the Browns Authentic Marcus Mariota Jersey , delivered a profanity-laced speech on financial advice to his fellow defensive linemen.

During a few scenes shot inside the team's meeting rooms, Nassib stood in front of a white board after writing down a math equation he said can help his teammates save money. Nassib emphasized his points by sprinkling in profanity not fit for family viewing.

On Sunday, Nassib said some of the feedback from his appearance has been alarming.

"I'm a little embarrassed about my swearing," Nassib said sheepishly. "I didn't know I swear that much. My grandmother was upset with me."

Nassib said he was prompted to help his teammates with their finances because he didn't want to see others take advantage of them.

"This offseason, I did a lot of research about finances and stuff like that because I did not study that in college," said Nassib, who was a biology major at Penn State. "I felt like I wanted to share that with my teammates and the younger guys and help them out because it helped me out a lot."

Nassib also wanted to clarify a comment he made during the first "Hard Knocks" when he told teammates that they could double their money Womens Joe Flacco Jersey , getting 10 percent interest per year.

"You have a million dollars and after seven years of getting 10 percent on that money every single year, you're making money off of it, you're going to double it after seven years," Nassib said in the episode. "So you double your money every seven years for forty-two (expletive) years, you get 64 times your original (expletive) money."

The scene left viewers wondering where Nassib could get 10 percent interest.

"I don't think that anybody is even giving 2 percent interest," he said. "The way it was edited made it seem like I said that. I was talking about gains on stocks and other investments."

The 25-year-old Nassib also lectured his teammates about spending too much time on Instagram. He warned them if they were on the social media site 2 hours a day, it would add up to one month every year.

Another amusing scene with Nassib came when coach Hue Jackson showed Nassib posing with pop superstar Taylor Swift before her recent concert in Cleveland.

Nassib joked with the coach that he had proposed.

So Ryan Johansen Jersey , has he gotten a response?

"Absolutely not," Nassib said. "She's way out of my league. Yeah, she doesn't have time for me."

Jackson said the TV show may have revealed a side of Nassib most fans haven't seen, but it's the guy the Browns know well.

"That is the real Carl Nassib," Jackson said. "There is no doubt about it. Do not let him fool you. That is who he is."

Rockets: Clint Capela had 12

Postby linhui95 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 7:45 am

Running back Paul Perkins was released by the New York Giants on Thursday with a non-football injury.

Perkins suffered a pectoral injury before the start of the team's offseason conditioning program and subsequently underwent surgery.

A fifth-round draft choice from UCLA in 2016 Reilly Smith Jersey , Perkins played in 25 regular-season games with five starts. He also started the 2016 NFC wild-card loss at Green Bay. He had 153 carries for 546 yards with a long run of 22 yards; and 23 receptions for 208 yards, with a long catch of 67 yards.

Perkins did not score a touchdown in his Giants career.

He likely would not have been a starter in the upcoming season after New York drafted Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick.

Chris Paul’s grit and veteran leadership have pushed the Golden State Warriors to the brink of elimination.

Now the Houston Rockets must wait to see if his injured leg is strong enough to help them take one last step to the NBA Finals.

Eric Gordon came off the bench to score 24 points and his steal on Golden State’s last possession secured a 98-94 victory Thursday night that gave the Rockets a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals. But the victory came with a cost, as Paul had to leave the game in the final minute with a right hamstring injury that could keep him out of Game 6.

”His spirits aren’t great,” coach Mike D’Antoni said. ”He wanted to be out there, and for sure he’s worried … we’ll see tomorrow how it goes.”

Paul was receiving treatment after the game and did not speak to reporters.

The Rockets head to Oakland for Game 6 on Saturday night a win away from knocking off the defending champions and advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time since winning back-to-back titles in 1994-95.

Kevin Durant scored 29 points for the Warriors, who lost in Game 5 of a playoff series for just the second time since 2015. Just like Cleveland in the East, a run of three straight trips to the championship round is on the verge of ending.

”We haven’t been in this position before … so it’s a chapter we need to figure out and finish the story,” Stephen Curry said.

The Rockets won a second straight defensive struggle between the two potent offenses Richard Panik Jersey , leaving the Warriors a loss from missing the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014.

Draymond Green made a 3-pointer with just over minute left to get Golden State within one. Harden, who was 0 for 11 on 3s, missed his last one with less than 30 seconds left, giving the Warriors the ball back.

Curry missed a floater and Trevor Ariza grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 10 seconds left. But he made just one of two free throws to give the Warriors another chance.

But Gordon came up with his steal when Green lost control in the lane and added two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to put it away.

Green was asked what was supposed to happen on the play.

”We was supposed to score,” he said. ”I lost the ball … not much more to it than that.”

Harden scoffed at a reporter who questioned him about his struggles from long range in the last two games, where he’s gone a combined 3 for 22.

”Who cares,” he said. ”I’m just missing shots, but we’re winning.”

Klay Thompson shook off a knee injury that had his status for this game in question to score 23 points and Curry added 22. A bruised left knee kept Andre Iguodala out for the second straight game Brent Seabrook Jersey Kids , and Kevon Looney started in his place.

After losing Game 1 of the series, the Rockets made the best of home-court advantage this time, thrilling a sellout crowd that included Justin Timberlake, Houston Texans star J.J. Watt and rapper Travis Scott.

It’s Houston’s second straight win in the series after snapping Golden State’s NBA playoff-record, 16-game home winning streak with a 95-92 victory on Tuesday night.

Golden State led by one to start the fourth before Paul got going, scoring seven points to power a 10-5 run that gave the Rockets an 81-77 lead with about 9 1/2 minutes left.

Thompson made a 3-pointer after that and then officials reviewed Paul’s first basket of the quarter and ruled he got it off after the shot clock expired, leaving the Warriors ahead 80-79.

The Rockets were clinging to a one-point lead with about seven minutes left when Durant fouled Gordon on a 3-point attempt, losing one of his shoes in the process. Gordon made all three free throws to start a 7-2 spurt that extended the lead to 88-82 midway through the quarter.

TIP-INS

Warriors: Coach Steve Kerr was unsure Thursday if Iguodala would be able to return for Game 6. ”He’s dying to play Henrik Lundqvist Jersey Kids , but he’s not healthy enough,” Kerr said. ”We’ll just continue to take it day to day.”… Curry made four free throws to tie Rick Barry for most free throws made in the playoffs in franchise history with 378. … Golden State had 18 turnovers.

Rockets: Clint Capela had 12 points and 14 rebounds for his seventh double-double this postseason. … Houston made 13 of 43 3-pointers, led by four from Gordon.

SANTA FE STRONG

The Rockets honored the 10 people killed in last week’s school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, before the game, with the school’s choir singing the national anthem and team owner Tilman Fertitta wearing a ”Santa Fe Strong” T-shirt, before Houston scored the game’s first six points in a first half where the team led by as many as 11.

Houston also wore rectangular patches on its jerseys that read: ”Santa Fe HS,” to remember those affected by the tragedy.

”We wanted to come out and give them light Youth Pavel Zacha Jersey , put smiles on their faces (and) clear their minds a little bit,” Harden said.

For the first time since 2012 http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/al-woods-jersey , the San Francisco 49ers passed on a chance to add to their defense in the first round of the draft and instead grabbed an offensive lineman.

Don't expect general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan to take the same approach on Friday.

The 49ers have holes to fill along their defensive line, linebacker and in the secondary.

Lynch acknowledged after the first round that he and his staff had been looking at a handful of linebackers with their first selection before settling on offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey. The 49ers' first-round pick in 2017, middle linebacker Reuben Foster, is currently facing domestic violence charges.

San Francisco could also use some help in the secondary. The team signed free agent Richard Sherman in the offseason but the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback is still on the mend after rupturing his right Achilles tendon last season.

Rockets star Chris Paul is among many in the Houston sports world offering condolences to the families affected by an area school shooting that left 10 people dead.

Paul says: ”It’s tough Womens Travis Kelce Jersey , man. It’s scary that that’s become the norm here. We’ve got to do something about it.”

The shooting in Santa Fe, which is about 30 miles from downtown Houston, comes after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida Authentic Dougie Hamilton Jersey , in February.

Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch, who has two school-aged daughters and was with the Astros at training camp in Florida at the time of the Marjory Stoneman shooting, expressed anger that these shootings continue to occur.

He says: ”It’s heartbreaking, another senseless act of violence in our schools. We’ll copy/paste this answer for the next time something happens because we feel like there’s something happening on a routine basis that’s idiotic and terrible and miserable. I hope we can somehow find a way to get past it for one Torey Krug Jersey , offer our condolences to the people affected and more importantly figure out a way to stop this madness.”

The Astros issued a statement Friday offering prayers to those affected by the shooting. They added that they’d hold a moment of silence in their honor before Friday night’s game against Cleveland and that the Texas flags at Minute Maid Park would be flown at half-staff.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers, who said he is working on a plan to help a student who was among the 10 people wounded in the attack, says something has to change to stop this from happening again.

He says: ”I just feel like there’s got to be some sort of solution. My heart goes out to the families and the kids who shouldn’t even have to worry about something like that.”

The Houston Texans also issued a statement sending condolences to the victims and thanking first responders and law enforcement who helped in the wake of the attack.

Danny Amendola was never very popular in the Miami locker room Travis Frederick Jersey , until he was.

When the Dolphins signed the former Patriots wideout this offseason, they gained a talented performer as well as a new friend.

Amendola scrapped on the field with Dolphins cornerback Bobby McCain last year, an incident which led to an ejection and eventually a $9,115 fine for McCain.

鈥淚 have a lot of respect for Bobby,鈥?Amendola said, via Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. 鈥淲e鈥檙e teammates. It鈥檚 nothing personal. We鈥檙e good. . . .

鈥淗e and I are cut from the same cloth. We like to compete. It brings the best out of both of us. He鈥檚 made me better. I鈥檓 competing my tail off against him.鈥?/p>

Likewise, McCain was ready to leave the past in the past.

鈥淲e hope to bring a championship to this city and with him being in New England, he鈥檚 got a couple piled up,鈥?McCain said. 鈥淎t the end of the day Kyle Okposo Jersey , he is here, and we鈥檙e ready to go get it.鈥?/p>

The Dolphins brought the 32-year-old Amendola in after getting rid of Jarvis Landry this offseason, and hope he can continue to be as productive as he’s been, now that he’s a friend and not an enemy.

15. ARIZONA CARDINALS (8-8)

LAST SEASON: Cardinals managed to win three of last four games to finish at .500 despite significant injuries to RB David Johnson, QB Carson Palmer, LT D.J. Humphries, LG Mike Iupati and OLB Marcus Golden, among others, but missed playoffs for second year in row. OLB Chandler Jones led league with franchise-record 17 sacks and was All-Pro. WR Larry Fitzgerald had another standout year in 14th NFL season Patrice Bergeron Jersey , matching his franchise record of 109 catches, second most in NFL, for 1,156 yards. Two-time NFL coach of year Bruce Arians, who set franchise record of 50 wins in his five seasons, and Palmer retired. Team hired Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as new head coach. Departures of Bradford, Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert left team with no QBs, situation general manager Steve Keim addressed by signing Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon.

THEY NEED: QB, CB Calvin de Haan Jersey Kids , WR, TE, DL.

THEY DON'T NEED: DE, P, RB.

POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: WR Calvin Ridley, Alabama; CB Josh Jackson, Iowa; OT Connor Williams, Texas; QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville; QB Baker Mayfield Ondrej Palat Jersey , Oklahoma.

OUTLOOK: Cardinals need, and want, young QB to mold as long-term solution at position, but they need to trade up to get any of top ones. Keim has cautioned that making that move would come at high price, Getting it wrong could set franchise back couple of years. Arizona probably could trade down and still select Jackson. Mayfield seems like stretch, but he did visit Cardinals eight days before draft. Cardinals could go for one of second-tier QBs with later pick. Arizona has not drafted QB high in first round since selecting Matt Leinart in 2006. Team is thin at WR behind Fitzgerald, who won't play forever, and is always searching for CB to play opposite Patrick Peterson.

the NFL's policy on performance-enhancers.

Postby officialsbaseball » Mon Oct 08, 2018 3:48 am

Five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and linebacker Corey Nelson have agreed on one-year contracts with the Philadelphia Eagles Carl Soderberg Jersey , according to two people familiar with the deals.

Both people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the deals won't be official until the league year starts Wednesday.

Ngata leaves the Detroit Lions to add depth on a strong front four that already landed Michael Bennett last week in a trade with Seattle. Nelson, who started six games in four seasons in Denver, bolsters the special teams and gives Philadelphia another option at linebacker.

The Super Bowl champions released veteran tight end Brent Celek earlier in the day and lost tight end Trey Burton to Chicago.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Following a lengthy training camp and five meaningless preseason outings, the Baltimore Ravens finally got the chance to evaluate themselves in a game that counts.

Judging by their 47-3 rout of the Buffalo Bills on a rainy Sunday, the Ravens might be pretty darn good.

Then again, that might be tough to determine: The Bills looked absolutely awful.

Baltimore harassed and embarrassed Buffalo quarterback Nathan Peterman, and the Ravens got three touchdown passes from Joe Flacco in an opener worth savoring.

“Anytime you go get a win in Week 1, it’s great,” Flacco said. “Anytime you have a performance like we did Bennie Fowler III Jersey , it’s great. We just have to make sure we build on this.”

Flacco’s TD passes were distributed to each of the three new receivers Baltimore added during the offseason to enhance a lackluster passing attack.

The 11-year veteran went 25 for 34 for 236 yards before being replaced in the third quarter by rookie Lamar Jackson, who did little more than hand off the ball after entering with a 40-0 lead.

Making their debut under defensive coordinator Don Martindale, the Ravens held Buffalo to 33 yards and no first downs in going up 26-0 at the half.

“Whatever they threw at us, we were able to answer,” linebacker Terrell Suggs said.

LeSean McCoy finished with 22 yards on seven carries and the Bills had 70 yards passing.

“LeSean McCoy is a threat. You have to start with that,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “Then you have to get to the quarterback and make him throw quick. That’s what our guys were able to do today.”

Making his third NFL start, Peterman went 5 for 18 for 24 yards and two interceptions for a quarterback rating of 0.0.

After Baltimore followed two Buffalo miscues with a pair of touchdowns for a 40-0 lead, coach Sean McDermott turned to rookie Josh Allen, who went 6 for 15 for 74 yards in Buffalo’s most lopsided defeat since a 56-10 loss to New England in November 2007.

“Obviously Authentic Derek Forbort Jersey Kids , it wasn’t a good showing,” Peterman said. “We’ve got to do a lot better, starting with me.”

There’s a quarterback controversy brewing in Buffalo. Asked about a possible change in starters, McDermott replied, “I’m going to look at everything. … It’s too early to go one way or another.”

If that was Buffalo’s only problem, it might be easier to overcome.

“We need to focus more on the entire team, not just the quarterback,” receiver Zay Jones said. “Offensive line, running backs Braydon Coburn Jersey , wide receivers, defense. We have to do better.”

Baltimore had six sacks and limited Buffalo to 153 yards.

The Ravens and Bills both finished 9-7 last year, but Buffalo won the tiebreaker and earned its first playoff berth since 1999. Since then, however, the Bills sent quarterback Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland and had to replace two starting offensive linemen.

The new-look Bills were not very pretty.

Buffalo won the opening coin toss, deferred until the second half and subsequently offered little resistance while Baltimore mounted a 10-play drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown run by Alex Collins.

Baltimore quickly added a 7-yard touchdown pass from Flacco to John Brown, who was signed as a free agent after playing with Arizona last year.

A 51-yard punt return by rookie Janarion Grant set up a field goal in the second quarter, and Baltimore added another field goal after an interception by Tony Jefferson in Buffalo territory.

Michael Crabtree made a tippy-toe catch in the back corner of the end zone for a 12-yard TD late in the half, and Willie Snead scored on a 13-yard catch to make it 33-0 in the third quarter.

Crabtree was signed in March after a three-year run with Oakland Tyson Barrie Jersey , and Snead was secured as a restricted free agent from New Orleans.

SPREAD THE WEALTH

To get touchdowns from each of their new receivers was gratifying to Harbaugh, who hopes his team can end a three-year playoff drought.

“To see Joe spread the ball around like that, and to see all the guys step up and play plays was the thing I’m most excited about,” the coach said.

INJURIES

Bills: CB Taron Johnson left with a shoulder injury and did not return.

ROOKIE WATCH

Bills: Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is the first Bills rookie with a sack in the season opener since 2002 and first with a forced fumble since 2013.

Ravens: Before entering in the third quarter, Jackson was used sporadically — mostly as a decoy, although he did run once (for no gain) and throw an incomplete pass.

All-Pro safety Kevin Byard believes it doesn’t get much better for he and his Titans teammates: First learning from defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and now Dean Pees.

”Just having two legends as coaches on the defense Darren Helm Jersey , man, I was blessed,” Byard said.

Now, what the Titans’ defense with look like under Pees, that remains somewhat a mystery. Neither Pees nor the Titans are sharing many, if any, details right now. Oh, there’s been talk of showing different looks on the defensive line and being consistent in coverages.

But that’s about as much as Pees is willing to share.

”I’d like to be more little more precise, but I really don’t want to talk about scheme particularly and what we’re doing,” Pees said Wednesday when asked about coverage consistency.

The Titans made a change from Mike Mularkey to first-timer Mike Vrabel as head coach in January mostly to get more production from an offense led by young quarterback Marcus Mariota. Even though the Titans were the AFC’s best against the run and allowed a league-fewest five touchdowns rushing and tied for fifth in sacks, they still have plenty of room for improvement on defense.

Maybe because the Titans were so good against the run, they faced more passes than any other defense in the NFL. They also gave up the most first downs through the air last season. The Titans ranked 25th defending the pass, giving up 239.3 yards per game, and 17th in points allowed. Despite Byard intercepting eight passes Authentic Artturi Lehkonen Jersey , Tennessee finished with 12 interceptions overall – tied for 18th in the league.

With Pees last season, Baltimore ranked 12th in yards allowed per game. The Ravens led the NFL with 22 interceptions and also tied for 10th against the pass giving up 213.8 yards per game.

Pees, 68, has spent the last 14 of his 45 years as a coach in the NFL. But he hasn’t talked with LeBeau, someone he’s always admired and wanted to have a relationship with as a coach. The new Titans coordinator has been busy learning his new players and installing his defensive schemes with a little more than third installed as of Wednesday.

Outside linebacker Derrick Morgan, now on his fifth head-coach with this franchise, said the defense remains primarily a 3-4 base. Each coach uses different language to describe plays, and Morgan said learning that is the biggest challenge.

”Once we get across that barrier and kind of on the same communication lines, I think we’ll be fine,” Morgan said. ”It’s a different scheme from what LeBeau ran here, but you know it’s football at the end of the day. So you’ve just got to get the concepts, get the philosophy and understand what we’re trying to accomplish on the field.”

Byard echoed Morgan’s comments.

”We’re not creating a new Cover 2 or Cover 3 or anything like that,” Byard said. ”It’s just we’re trying to execute at a high level man. DP just brought a great defense, and I think we’re trying to execute it at a high level.”

Titans drafted linebackers Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry Aaron Ekblad Jersey , additions linebacker Brian Orakpo welcomes. Pees has a reputation for being creative in trying to free up pass rushers to get to the quarterback, and the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker said they’ve already seen some of that.

”Guys getting freed up, guys getting one-on-ones,” Orakpo said. ”You see me and Morgan flip-flopping that you’re normally not used to seeing. Just trying to get advantages across the board. We’re just going to keep taking it day by day and see what happens.”

After all, the Titans’ season doesn’t start until Sept. 9 in Miami.

Notes: Vrabel said he told the Titans on Wednesday morning that the team and controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk will support players on making a decision on the national anthem when the time comes. Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker said that’s not a decision that has to be made until September.

Continuity paid off for the Los Angeles Rams‘ offense last season, starting with the same offensive line combination that played together in all but one game.

It certainly did for running back Todd Gurley, who signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension in July after running for 1,305 yards and scoring 19 total touchdowns last season behind that familiar front five.

”Whoever said money don’t make you happy lied,” Gurley said with a smile Wednesday.

The Rams expect even greater stability on offense to translate into continued success in head coach Sean McVay’s second season, a belief that has been reinforced during the start of training camp.

At this same stage last year, the Rams were working in new additions at left tackle, center and wide receiver while learning the basics of a new offense, and were still weeks away from trading for wide receiver Sammy Watkins. They return 10 of 11 starters for this year’s workouts at UC Irvine Charles Haley Jersey , with new acquisition Brandin Cooks replacing Watkins as the big play threat in the passing game.

Quarterback Jared Goff said the familiarity is paying dividends, especially during the transition from teaching the offense in the first few days to refining each element of a system that produced an NFL-leading 29.9 points per game.

”We feel like we’re in a good spot,” Goff said. ”Offensively, we’ve been starting to click. I think today was the first day you really felt that consistency starting to gel. We’re not so much installing anymore, we’re running the same plays over and over again and starting to get a good feel with it.”

”It makes everyone so much more comfortable just to come out here and just play our game. You don’t have to think about too much, and that’s what it is all about,” Gurley said.

For Goff, his increased comfort level entering his second season as the starter manifests in a better understanding of what opposing defenses are trying to do.

”It just continues to slow down,” Goff said. ”Your pre-snap process is a lot smoother, and you’re more under control of everything and are seeing things better.”

While Goff is playing faster, there has been no deceleration by Gurley after signing a contract featuring the most guaranteed money for a running back in NFL history. Goff and McVay both praised his relentlessness in practice, with a prime example coming when Gurley kept running towards the end zone as McVay was setting up the next play in the sequence.

”I got what I want, now let’s keep going,” Gurley said. ”Nothing doesn’t stop. The grind continues. It’s going to be even harder now Paul Stastny Jersey , obviously, to be able to do what I did last year, and teams are going to game plan for it. It’s my job to go out there, put myself in a great position and try to work as hard as I can. As long as I do that, I feel comfortable with the players around me and the coaches around me to put me in a great position.”

With so much familiarity returning, Gurley is ready to build on his best season to date. But he understands his individual production is the result of what the offense does together, declaring that every running back is the beneficiary of the blocking he gets before Gurley backtracked.

”Obviously, Barry Sanders is going to do what he do, but it doesn’t matter what other running back you have back there. If you don’t have all 11 doing one thing, then it’s not going to work,” he said.

NOTES: Outside linebacker Matt Longacre left practice early because of an undisclosed injury. . Kicker Greg Zuerlein made a 63-yard field goal during a simulated two-minute drill.

300 offensive snaps during the 2017 season.

Ricardo Allen remembers when the Falcons’ defense ranked among the worst in the NFL.

That’s not difficult. It was only one year ago when the Falcons ranked near the bottom of the league in total defense and dead last in red-zone stops.

Those memories made Allen smile on Wednesday http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/tony-romo-jersey , because defense has become a point of pride for the Falcons, who play at the Los Angeles Rams in a wild-card game on Saturday.

For the first time since Atlanta’s first Super Bowl season in 1998, the Falcons (10-6) finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense (19.7) and total defense.

Allen was especially proud to note the Falcons have climbed to No. 5 in the league in red-zone defense.

Unlike 2016, when the Falcons leaned heavily on the NFL’s top-scoring offense for their Super Bowl run, Atlanta takes better balance into the postseason.

”Going from being one of the bottom defenses in the league last year … it’s big growth,” Allen said, adding the improvement has come ”much faster than I thought it would be.”

The Falcons have emphasized defense in recent drafts, and that commitment has produced results. Defensive starters added in the last three drafts include linebackers Vic Beasley Jr. Authentic Marcus Johansson Jersey , Deion Jones and DeVondre Campbell and safety Keanu Neal.

Six defensive starters on last year’s defense were first- and second-year players.

Coach Dan Quinn said he has seen second-year players Jones, Campbell and Neal ”take a big step from year one to year two just as you hoped it would happen.”

Jones, Neal and Campbell are Atlanta’s top three leaders in tackles.

Quinn said he sees better communication on the field through ”hand signals, just sometimes an eye contact.”

Allen says there’s room for more improvement.

”Oh man, if we keep growing and we stay humble and we keep enjoying the process, the sky is the limit,” he said. ”I think we can be one of the best defenses in the league for sure.”

Quinn, the former Seattle defensive coordinator Lane Taylor Jersey , enjoys seeing the young starters play lead roles. He also sees more improvement to come.

”I think this group can take another jump,” Quinn said. ”They’re athletic, they’re tackling well, the communication piece is there, so I’m very hopeful for where that group can go.”

The defensive upswing has been important, because the Atlanta offense that led the league in scoring in 2016 has struggled at times this season . The Falcons’ scoring has dropped from 33.8 to 22.1 points per game.

Atlanta has been held under 30 points in five straight games, including last week’s 22-10 win over Carolina to clinch a playoff spot.

NOTES: Special teams coach Keith Armstrong will interview with the Cardinals next week as a candidate to replace coach Bruce Arians. ”To me it’s a sign of respect,” Armstrong said after Wednesday’s practice. ”I’ve been doing this 24 years now. That’s quite a long time in this league. It’s good to have someone recognize you for what you’ve done.” … Return specialist Andre Roberts (knee Philipp Grubauer Jersey , ankle) did not practice. A long list of players were limited, including RB Devonta Freeman (knee), WR Julio Jones (ankle, ribs), DE Adrian Clayborn (calf), WR Taylor Gabriel (hamstring), C Alex Mack (calf) and TE Levine Toilolo (knee).

The Jaguars cut running back Chris Ivory in February, which leaves them without a player who played nearly 300 offensive snaps during the 2017 season.

As long as he’s healthy Tyler Ennis Jersey , Leonard Fournette is likely to get some of that work after playing nearly half the snaps during his rookie season. Corey Grant looks like a good bet to see an uptick in playing time as well.

Grant only played 49 offensive snaps in the regular season, but made the most of them by averaging 8.3 yards per carry and 13.7 yards per reception. He also caught three passes for 59 yards in Jacksonville’s playoff loss to New England and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett suggested he’s in line for more action this time around.

“I thought Corey — once again, he’s a guy that stepped in [last season] and did a great job there at the end — and he’s just a guy we’ve got to get out there,” Hackett said, via First Coast News. “There’s all these guys we’re talking about and it’s a long ways away from that first game to see what we’re going to get but I’d love to put him out there because he’s a major change-of-pace back.”

T.J. Yeldon is also on hand in Jacksonville so Grant won’t be the only option for a change of pace from Fournette, but his knack for hitting big plays makes it easy to understand why Hackett would be interested to see what happens if the ball’s in his hands more often.

BONIFACIO RETURNS

Postby officialsbaseball » Mon Oct 08, 2018 6:17 am

Not many football players can go from high school to the NFL without leaving a 17-mile radius.

Uchenna Nwosu was thrilled to be able to complete that feat Friday night after getting drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers Womens Esa Lindell Jersey , who play their home games in his hometown.

The Chargers selected the Southern California linebacker with their second-round pick, the 48th overall.

Los Angeles kept its focus on defense in the third round, picking North Carolina State defensive tackle Justin Jones.

Nwosu starred at Narbonne High School in Harbor City before leading the Trojans, who won the Pac-12 title last season. Now he'll spend Sundays at StubHub Center, where he has spent many days before.

"It means a lot to be around the people that supported me my whole life," Nwosu said. "Just to be able to play right down the street from my parents' house where we grew up, walking and watching tennis matches and all types of soccer games there my whole life, just to be able to play in there and be home, it just means a lot to me. I'm very grateful for it."

Nwosu grew up in Carson, the suburban home of the two-stadium complex now occupied by the Chargers while they build their permanent home in nearby Inglewood. While StubHub's compact size is unique in the NFL, Nwosu knows all about it.

"I'm used to that place," Nwosu said. "I've been there so many times. It's basically in my backyard."

Nwosu will be expected to contribute to a defense that looked solid last year and is getting better. The Chargers added Florida State safety Derwin James with the 17th overall pick Thursday night Joel Eriksson Ek Jersey , while Jones is likely to be a key rotation player on the defensive line.

"I just know that there are a bunch of guys on that defense that are hungry," Nwosu said. "They have a good defense. They've got a lot of playmakers on that defense. It's attack mode. It fits my style of play."

Nwosu has long appeared to be a good fit with the Chargers, who showed particular interest in him during the scouting process and during their workout day in Costa Mesa. Nwosu's speed and versatility on the outside will fill needs for the Chargers, who went into the draft hoping to restock their depth at linebacker.

"He had a great year at USC this year," Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said. "Constantly around the football, whether it was making a tackle behind the line of scrimmage, affecting a play, getting his hands up, knocking the ball down, getting a key sack on third down. He just showed up week after week after week.

"It was easy for us to take notice of him, because we saw him a lot at USC. The fact that he's local is pretty cool. It's not why we took him."

Nwosu will join Hayes Pullard, his fellow USC linebacker and Los Angeles-area native Womens Jason Demers Jersey , on the Chargers' roster.

Nwosu made significant progress during his four seasons with the Trojans, emerging as a senior leader and an elite pass-rusher with 9 1/2 sacks for the Pac-12 champions last year. Although he didn't start at USC until late in his sophomore season, his speed and edge rushing abilities made him one of the West Coast's top outside linebackers.

"I showed them what kind of player I am, you know?" Nwosu said. "Being able to show everything I can do, from rushing to covering, to dropping (into coverage and playing) special teams. I just showed I'm a complete package."

The 309-pound Jones fills another need on the Chargers' defensive line, which could use depth and youth. The physically punishing North Carolina State product will join 33-year-old Brandon Mebane and Corey Liuget, who will miss the first four games of the season after failing a doping test.

"Man, they're a pretty strong group," Jones said. "I know they bring it every day, so that means I've got to bring mine every day as well. It's just high standards over there, especially on that D-line Kyle Connor Jersey , so it's great to have an opportunity to be a part of it.

Jones was a four-year teammate of Bradley Chubb, the North Carolina State defensive lineman who went to the Denver Broncos with the fifth overall pick.

Jones wasn't widely expected to be picked in the third round. His family was planning a party to celebrate the draft on Saturday, but Jones instead will be on a plane from Atlanta to Los Angeles.

"We've got to postpone that," Jones said with a laugh.

Marco Gonzales was looking for some retribution against the Kansas City Royals.

Gonzales (8-5) pitched a six-hitter for his first career complete game in the Seattle Mariners‘ 4-1 victory on Friday. The left-hander struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk while throwing just 96 pitches.

”My last outing against these guys didn’t go great – my second start of the year, I think – so I was looking for some payback, too. So I was a little more amped than usual,” Gonzales said.

Mitch Haniger and Mike Zunino homered for Seattle.

Gonzales had been chased after just 2 1/3 innings of what became a 10-0 loss on April 9, but Friday’s start was much different. Gonzalez, who’d never taken a game into the eighth inning until going 7 1/3 innings against Tampa Bay earlier this month, didn’t need more than 13 pitches to finish any inning against the Royals.

”He has a lot of confidence right now because everything that’s happened to him this year, he’s earned,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said.

Whit Merrifield singled to lead off the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rosell Herrera. Gonzales picked Merrifield off second base to erase the baserunner and would retire nine straight batters before running into a spot of trouble in the fourth.

Herrera doubled off the glove of left fielder Denard Span with one out. An infield single from Mike Moustakas put runners on the corners Youth Colin Miller Jersey , but Gonzales induced an inning-ending double play from Salvador Perez to keep the Royals off the board.

”The way that we’ve been playing and the fun that we’ve been having, I can’t wait for my fifth day to come,” Gonzales said. ”To be able to go out there and contribute in a positive way and have these guys rally behind you is pretty incredible.”

Royals starter Ian Kennedy (1-8) retired the first 10 batters he faced before running into trouble in the fourth. Jean Segura reached on an infield single to give Seattle its first baserunner of the game. Haniger followed with a two-run blast over the center-field wall to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.

After fouling off three straight pitches with a 2-2 count, Zunino blasted a solo home run two rows from the top of the upper deck in left field to extend the Mariners’ lead to 3-0 in the fifth.

Kennedy left after five innings due to tightness in his left side that surfaced on the last pitch to Zunino.

”I felt it grab,” Kennedy said. ”And then the rest of the inning it stayed tight. The last couple pitches I was compensating for it, so I knew … the right thing to do is to say something.”

Segura added a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning off Brandon Maurer to give Seattle a 4-0 advantage.

Adalberto Mondesi doubled to open the ninth and Moustakas delivered a two-out single to center field to drive home the only run of the game for the Royals.

BONIFACIO RETURNS

Outfielder Jorge Bonifacio was recalled and back in the lineup for the Royals on Friday after completing an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Bonifacio was suspended in March after testing positive for Boldenone, which is an anabolic androgenic steroid. Bonifacio started the game in left field and went 0 for 3 with a strikeout. He hit .255 with 17 home runs and 40 RBIs in 113 games as a rookie in 2017. OF Ryan Goins was designated for assignment on Thursday to clear a roster spot. ”It was a tough time down there in Arizona. But I learned from it. It’s never going to happen again,” Bonifacio said.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Royals: C Perez was back in the lineup after exiting Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee in the ninth inning after taking a foul ball off his right leg.

Mariners: 3B Kyle Seager was back in the lineup after making only a pinch-hit appearance in Baltimore on Sunday. Seager has an ”avulsion fracture” in his big toe and was given the day off in the field to rest. It’s not expected to require a disabled list stint and Seager is planning to play through the injury.

UP NEXT

Royals: RHP Jason Hammel (2-9) will make his 17th start of the season on Saturday. Hammel has lost four straight starts and has allowed at least three earned runs in three of the four outings.

Mariners: RHP Felix Hernandez (7-6) will take the hill for the 18th time this season as he looks to continue a run of strong starts. After a rough first two months of the season, Hernandez has allowed just one earned run in three of his five starts in June.

The New York Jets have signed four players to their 10-man practice squad Womens Charlie McAvoy Jersey , including 2017 sixth-round pick Jeremy Clark.

The defensive back, who played both safety and cornerback during training camp, joined safety Brandon Bryant and linebackers Frankie Luvu and Anthony Wint on the practice squad Sunday.

Clark missed almost all of last season while recovering from a knee injury suffered while playing at Michigan. He played in the regular-season finale last December against New England.

Bryant signed with the Jets after going unselected in this year's supplemental draft. The former Mississippi State star had six tackles in New York's preseason finale at Philadelphia.

Luvu, an undrafted free agent out of Washington State Chris Ivory Jersey , had an impressive camp while running with the Jets' first-team defense at times.

Wint was signed by New York after rookie minicamp following a standout career at Florida International.

HOUSTON (AP) — A high school hit hard by Hurricane Harvey is getting a new playing surface thanks to the Houston Texans.

The Texans said Monday that they’re donating the turf they played on at NRG Stadium last season to C.E. King High School after its field was destroyed in flooding from Harvey, which hit the area last August.

“These guys get to go out there every day and know that they’re playing on something that J.J. Watt played on,” King coach Derek Fitzhenry said. “Of course, that’s everybody’s favorite player Tobias Rieder Jersey , so it’s exciting.”

Fitzhenry and several members of the team were guests of the Texans at practice on Monday, and Watt spoke to the group for a few minutes before posing for pictures with them.

“It means a lot to me to play on a field the Texans played on,” senior linebacker Rodrick Crumedy said. “I’ve never even stepped on an NFL field, so stepping on one every day will mean a lot to me.”

Students at the high school had to attend classes in an elementary school last year because of damage from the flooding http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/rod-smith-jersey , and much of the team’s equipment and facilities were lost. Almost a year later, the team is excited about a fresh start this season on its fancy albeit gently used turf.

“These guys have really come through that struggle really well,” Fitzhenry said. “A lot of that stuff is behind us now and we’re excited for this year.”

Before Watt spent time with the guys, several other players stopped by to chat with them on their way off the field after practice. Linebacker Benardrick McKinney encouraged them to work hard and wished them luck on their season. Safety Tyrann Mathieu smiled broadly as he autographed miniature helmets for the players.

“Any time we can reach out to the high schools and help them out in the ways that we do — we do a great job headed by (Texans president) Jamey Rootes and his crew http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/markus-wheaton-jersey ,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “They do a great job with community relations and I think the high school football is a big part of that.”
