Last year it often seemed Miami Dolphins rookie defensive end Charles Harris didn't have a prayer to reach the quarterback Wayne Simmonds Jersey , and now he does.

The first-round draft pick from Missouri turned to his faith to shake the funk he found himself in last season when he totaled two sacks, which tied for 156th in the NFL.

"As a rookie, I was in a dark place," he says. "Now I'm cool. I understand grace."

Harris says he's optimistic he'll fulfill his potential this season, and a week into training camp, so are the Dolphins.

"I actually think Charles Harris has probably had the best offseason of anybody on our team," four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake says. "He came back in tremendous shape. He has obviously been working on his strength; he has been working on his football. I think that's definitely going to pay off when it comes time to put in the live bullets and get after the quarterback."

Coach Adam Gase repeatedly defended Harris last season, saying the rookie was more disruptive than statistics would suggest. But the Dolphins were hoping for a bigger impact from the No. 22 overall pick in the draft.

Harris says off-the-field issues complicated his adjustment to the NFL. The Kansas City native says he struggled with the move to South Florida, and with the sudden wealth that accompanies a $6 million signing bonus.

"There was a lot of confusion," he says. "This offseason I just prayed a lot Sean Monahan Jersey , prayed about my lifestyle, prayed about things off the field. Just like Revelation, I asked God for Solomon-like wisdom, and he blessed me with it. ... I'm using my talents and not burying them. Last season I buried them."

Dolphins defensive end Andre Branch, a second-round draft pick in 2012, says he can see the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Harris beginning to blossom.

"He's a monster," Branch says. "He has always had talent, but it takes time. He was a rookie coming into a program where he's expected to do a lot. He's a high draft pick. I've been there. There are a lot of things on your shoulders, and you're young. You have no clue what to do and who to go to. But he's coming into his own."

Harris plays the deepest position on the roster. Along with Wake and Branch Tanner Pearson Jersey , two-time Pro Bowler Robert Quinn and veteran William Hayes are expected to be part of the rotation.

More pressure on the quarterback is mandatory if the Dolphins are to improve on last year's 6-10 record. They had 30 sacks last season, the team's lowest total in a decade, which is a big reason they gave up more points than all but three other teams.

Harris says he's spending camp perfecting two or three pass-rush moves, preferring to polish them rather than add more that he doesn't do as well.

Wake and Quinn make for great mentors, he says, because their styles are so different.

"They're two different varieties," Harris says. "I've got a power rusher and a finesse rusher at the same time. I feel like I can combine both of them and be one of the greatest."

Gase is encouraged by what he has seen lately from Harris, but taps the brakes on any soaring expectations, noting limitations on contact make it difficult to evaluate defensive linemen during practice.

"For me it's hard sometimes, because we're asking these guys to stay away from the quarterback Authentic Alexander Radulov Jersey ," Gase says. "Once we hit real games, then that's going to be easier for us to say, 'OK, here's where we're at with his development, and where do we need to go next?'"

Brent Grimes returned to team drills Monday for the first time in almost two weeks. The starting cornerback missed time with an undisclosed injury, working his way back on the field on a limited basis Saturday.

“We want Brent Grimes out there,” Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “He’s our best cover guy, so it’s great to have Brent out there.”

Grimes, 35 Nate Schmidt Jersey , made an interception in one of his first plays back, picking off a deep pass intended for DeSean Jackson.

“For my sanity, I just need to move around,” Grimes said. “I’m not good at sitting still for real long. So it’s good to come out and work with the guys, be part of the team. Obviously I’m in meetings and in the locker room, but to get out and put in the football work, you feel part of the team more when you do that. It makes my day much better.”

The Bucs welcomed Grimes back as Vernon Hargreaves began his rehab from a strained groin. Hargreaves will miss a few weeks after being injured in the preseason opener.

Second-round picks M.J. Stewart and Carlton Davis are competing for playing time at cornerback and nickel.

Wide receiver Carlos Henderson did not report to Broncos training camp when it opened in July Jimmy Vesey Jersey , but he was at the team’s facility on Tuesday and reportedly wants to return.

Mike Klis of KUSA reports that Henderson told Broncos General Manager John Elway that he would like to rejoin the team. Henderson, who is on the did not report list, was away from the team for personal reasons that have yet to be disclosed.

Henderson was a third-round pick in 2017 Youth Brandon Sutter Jersey , but missed all of last season due to a thumb injury that required surgery. Klis reports that the team “will do their homework” on Henderson’s reasons for missing training most of their summer work before making a call about bringing him back.

If the Broncos do take him back, Henderson will have to serve a one-game suspension stemming from a marijuana possession arrest in June.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick says the team has "moved on" following the announcement of Julian Edelman's four-game suspension this upcoming season for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Belichick expressed disappointment Wednesday, adding his focus now is to do the best with the players he has. Edelman can practice this preseason and Belichick said he has had a good attitude since arriving early for training camp Tom Kuhnhackl Jersey , which begins Thursday.

The 32-year-old receiver missed the entire 2017 season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament. Edelman will miss a home game against Houston, trips to Jacksonville and Detroit, plus a home game against Miami.

He will be eligible to return to the Patriots' active roster on Oct. 1 Nicklas Backstrom Jersey , enabling him to make his 2018 debut Oct. 4 against Indianapolis.

Of all the 2014 Olympians aiming to return to the Winter Games next month Vincent Trocheck Jersey , American skier Nolan Kasper’s path might be the least traveled.

The Vermont resident missed two full seasons recovering from multiple knee surgeries, and graduated from an Ivy League college at age 28.

On Sunday, Kasper’s comeback race in a challenging World Cup slalom in Switzerland was a key step to winning selection for a third straight Olympics.

Kasper overcame the beat-up snow surface typically facing racers that wear No. 52 and earned a second run on a quirky hill. A solid second run placed him 20th.

”It’s been a while. To put two runs down, I’ll take it,” Kasper told The Associated Press minutes after his first World Cup race since January 2015.

Kasper has two more elite races in Austria – at storied Kitzbuehel and a pulsating floodlit race at Schladming – to show coaches he should go to the Pyeongchang Olympics. The entry deadline is Jan. 28 and the men’s slalom in South Korea is on Feb. 22.

Still, he has ”no idea” of the U.S. team selection rules, despite placing 13th at Sochi four years ago and 24th at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

”A bunch of other people can figure that out, not me,” Kasper said. ”It would be great to go there but if that’s not to be Jason Pominville Jersey Kids , it’s not really something I’m focusing on.”

His main focus is again taking on the best in the World Cup. In 2011, he tied for second in Slovenia, 0.09 seconds behind the next Olympic champion, Mario Matt of Austria.

”If you want to try to ski fast, (the World Cup) is where you’ve got to prove it,” said Kasper, who barely clicked on his skis for two years after a cartilage injury first required surgery.

A prolonged recovery let him speed up completing an economics degree at Dartmouth College he began in 2010.

Kasper graduated last June, and spent time last year working as an intern for U.S. Ski and Snowboard in Park City, Utah.

He returned to training in October Sergei Boikov Jersey , and now has two more weeks to bring his Olympic journey full circle.

The Houston Rockets are so full of physical defenders that Golden State coach Steve Kerr said many look like they could play football.

And with three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt watching from a courtside seat Thursday night, this team long known for its powerful offense relied again on its defense to beat the Warriors 98-94 and take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals.

”Both teams are playing their guys heavy minutes so shots will fall or not,” James Harden said. ”But I think whoever can buckle down and get stops consecutively and create opportunities with their defense is going to win or have a chance at winning games.

”The last two games, we’ve done that.”

Indeed. The Rockets bounced back from an embarrassing 41-point loss in Game 3, when Golden State scored 126 points, to hold the Warriors to fewer than 100 points in two straight wins. Houston’s stingy defense helped the Rockets come out on top on a night when Harden, the MVP front-runner, was 0 for 11 on 3-pointers.

Critics of Mike D’Antoni’s teams often said they were too focused on offense and not good enough on defense. It looks like that’s changed now – against a team with four All-Stars in its starting lineup.

”Ninety-four points for a team like that, the guys are trying to find a way and they did Womens Jake Gardiner Jersey ,” D’Antoni said.

The Rockets have kept the Warriors from moving the ball the way they’re accustomed to, crowding them and forcing them into playing more isolation- style. They’ve also been relentless at throwing bodies at their shooters, and have often used bigger players to harass Stephen Curry to try and wear him down.

Houston has forced the Warriors into 34 turnovers combined and limited them to 19 total 3-pointers in the last two games.

The Warriors and Rockets were first and second in the NBA in points per game during the regular season, averaging 113.5 and 112.4, respectively. Golden State has managed just over 107 points a game in this series, and Houston has held the defending champions to 97 points in its three wins.

Curry noted that both teams have elevated their defenses in this series.

”It’s been high level,” he said. ”Nothing’s easy out there on either side.”

He shook his head at the fact neither team has broken 100 points in the last two games.

”I think (if you) guessed what the final score would be between the Rockets and Warriors, and neither team getting to 100 two straight games, don’t know what the odds (would be) on that Womens Sean Couturier Jersey ,” he said. ”Defense is high right now.”

While everyone has been pitching in, the tone on defense, especially in these last two games, has been set by the aggressive play of P.J. Tucker and Trevor Ariza, and Clint Capela’s presence at the rim. Tucker knows that most people believe the way to beat the Warriors is to outscore them in a shootout. The Rockets have shown that energy and effort on the defensive end are a better formula for getting it done.

”Anybody says to beat Golden State they talk about scoring 120, 130 points,” Tucker said. ”We just feel like we play defense, (lock) down and make it tough for them.”

And if the Rockets are able to do that in Game 6 on Saturday night they’ll be on the way to their first NBA Finals since winning consecutive titles in 1994-95.

Senators aren’t showing their hand.

A year after shaking up his team with trades at the draft that altered the landscape of the NHL Mark Giordano Jersey , Stan Bowman isn’t letting on that he’ll make the same kinds of moves now.

”I learned to never try to predict the future,” the Chicago Blackhawks general manager said. ”It’s difficult to predict the magnitude of changes as we go forward.”

With teams like the Blackhawks eager to get back to the playoffs, the New York Rangers always in position to make a splash and plenty of big-name players in trade discussions, it’s hard to predict but easy to expect an eventful weekend of movement. Ottawa captain and No. 1 defenseman Erik Karlsson, Montreal winger Max Pacioretty, Buffalo center Ryan O’Reilly and Pittsburgh winger Phil Kessel are among the stars being bandied about in trade talk that could come to a head at or before the first round of the draft Friday night.

”There’s been a lot of chatter this week Kyle Okposo Jersey ,” Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli said Thursday. ”We’re involved in a lot of the chatter. I’ve said publicly we’d put our (10th overall) pick in play particularly for a defenseman. That, of course, has led to teams asking what we would put in play for. There’s been discussions on that.”

A lot of discussions are ongoing on the trade front apart from the draft itself, which is expected to feature smooth-skating Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin going first to Buffalo, Russian winger Andrei Svechnikov second to Carolina and a whole lot of uncertainty after that.

GMs finally got some certainty on the 2018-19 salary cap when the NHL and NHLPA announced it would be $79.5 million with a floor of $58.8 million. As Bowman said, the $4.5 million increase is ”better than it staying flat Jonathan Huberdeau Jersey ,” and it gives teams more room to maneuver on re-signing players or exchanging them.

Aside from the deadline, there’s no better time of the year for trades than the draft, right ahead of the free agent negotiating period next week and with free agency opening July 1. Karlsson is the most attractive target by far because he can be a free agent a year from now, but the Senators aren’t showing their hand.

”We have a good game plan,” Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion said. ”We aren’t going to talk (publicly) about specific players, i.e. Patrick Maroon Jersey , Mark Stone, Cody Ceci, Chris Wideman, Erik Karlsson.”

Florida’s Dale Tallon said he had spoken to about a dozen fellow GMs and is hearing mostly talk about so-called ”hockey trades” that are neither buying nor selling moves. Because players like O’Reilly and Kessel have many years left on their contracts, they’re more complicated moves.

”Most of those big names are tied up for a long time,” Tallon said. ”I haven’t heard a lot about big names. It’s mostly deals that fill needs for teams Miles Wood Jersey , either a stay-at-home defenseman or a third-line or a fourth-line guy or a specialty player of some sort. Somebody’s trying to shake things up.”

Shake things up? Sounds like the Rangers in most years, though they’ve gone into rebuilding mode after a fire sale at the trade deadline. They’re usually involved in rumors on big players, but GM Jeff Gorton wants to quell the speculation that he’s going all-in on trying to win now.

”We’re going to investigate everything,” Gorton said. ”That’s what the job is. That’s what we want to do. If there is an opportunity to get a player and the price wasn’t too high then we’re going to look at it, but for anybody that would be skeptical of a rebuild all you have to do is look at the last several months and over the trade deadline some of the things we’ve done. I think it’s pretty obvious that we’re trying to accumulate young players and assets and trying to get better and going to give these players an opportunity.”

Wes McCauley keeps his good calls close and his bad calls closer.

Any time the veteran NHL referee is feeling too good or gets down on himself Madison Bowey Jersey , he breaks out a binder full of his missed calls and looks through it.

“It’s a humbling book,” McCauley said. “Trust me, I’ve made a lot of mistakes. There’s times you wish you could saw your arm off.”

McCauley’s arms have signaled countless penalties, goals and no-goals since his NHL career began in 2003. Over the past 15 years, he has developed a reputation as not only the most animated referee in the game but the best in hockey based on his consistency, rapport with players and coaches and a demeanor that’s equal parts entertaining and professional.

In an NHLPA poll last spring, almost half of players chose McCauley as the league’s best referee, honoring a man in stripes who’s far more used to getting barked at than complimented.

“I don’t think I’m that good,” McCauley told The Associated Press. “My job’s just to officiate hockey games and to do the best I can and to move on to the next game and really to stay out of the highlights.”

McCauley has his own highlight reels because he enjoys hamming it up when he makes announcements. When he reaches to his right hip to turn on the microphone, it’s must-see entertainment.

His flair for the dramatic once sent former Rangers coach Alain Vigneault into a laughing fit on the bench, and it has been the subject of mocking from veteran officials for just how demonstrative he can be when whistling a penalty or waving off a goal. McCauley knows he’s more exuberant than he has to be, but that’s part of the fun for him and players.

“He’s real,” Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon said. “He’s obviously an animated guy and definitely calls a good game.”

McCauley earned the votes of 47.8 percent of players as the NHL’s best referee Casey Cizikas Jersey , well ahead of Kelly Sutherland (17.7 percent), Tim Peel (4.4 percent), Dan O’Halloran (2.7 percent) and Trevor Hanson (2.7 percent). The 46-year-old from Georgetown, Ontario, is the most popular and respected ref because he gets it right more often than not, apologizes when he doesn’t and knows how to explain his calls to players and coaches.

“Consistency. You kind of know what you’re getting with him,” Rangers forward Chris Kreider said. “In any sport when you talk about refereeing, if a ref isn’t very visible and prevalent and the game is decided by the players ultimately, then that’s a good ref and that’s Wes.”

McCauley gets that. He played four seasons at Michigan State from 1989-93, had a cup of coffee in the minors and figures his relationships with players from that era bought him the benefit of the doubt, and some of that still exists.

“He’s in charge out there, and there’s really not a lot of gray area,” said Capitals coach Todd Reirden John Tavares Jersey , who went to Bowling Green and played against McCauley in college. “He stands his line and he lets the players play, but he also has a great pulse of what’s going on and I think that’s from his experiences of playing the game at a collegiate level and also some at a pro level. He relates really well with the players and with the coaches.”

McCauley vividly remembers botching a call in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final when he didn’t see that Washington’s Chandler Stephenson, not Vegas defenseman Deryk Engelland, tripped teammate Nicklas Backstrom and called a penalty. As with many other calls, he hoped it wouldn’t directly affect the result and apologized to Engelland later.

That’s a common theme during McCauley’s career.

“I still remember one time he made a bad call and he found me the next time we were playing and said: ‘Hey, I just want to let you know I know that call was really bad. I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I wanted to apologize,'” Winnipeg center Mark Scheifele said. “When he has the respect level for the game and for us as players, we have respect for him. And I think that’s why he’s known to be the best referee out there.”

Best referee out there? “Now you jinxed me — now I’m going to be up and down like a toilet seat next season,” McCauley quipped. Maybe earlier in his career that was a danger, though McCauley now has 957 regular-season and 131 playoff games under his and has worked six Stanley Cup Final series.

Over that time, McCauley has developed a balance between knowing players see him as an obstacle to winning while still communicating with them to the point they know him personally. Even if players aren’t happy with his calls, they appreciate McCauley’s honesty and ability to have just as big a mouth as they do.

“You automatically sometimes snap at the refs,” Stars center Tyler Seguin said. “Sometimes you blame the refs for things that were even out of their control. And he finds a way to take it Tyler Johnson Jersey , give it back a little and then move on pretty quickly and he’s always been very respectful to the players and I think that’s what makes him a great ref.”

McCauley’s life experiences helped make him a great ref. His dad, John McCauley, worked 15 years as an NHL referee before an eye injury took him off the ice and led to a director of officiating job before his unexpected death at age 44. His brother, Blaine, suffered an eye injury that cost him his hockey-playing career and changed Wes’ view forever.

“My biggest thing is when I step on the ice, I want the players to feel like, ‘Oh, OK we’re going to get a fair shake tonight,'” McCauley said. “I

D.J. Chark is busy. He’s busy learning the playbook and busy learning multiple positions.

“I’m everywhere,” Chark said Tuesday, via Mike Kaye of First Coast News.

The second-round pick, who ran a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash, is learning all three receiver positions and five special teams spots.

“[Special teams] coach Joe D [DeCamillis] has me at punt returner Kevin Shattenkirk Jersey , kick returner, kickoff [coverage], punt [coverage], the gunner,” Chark said. “By the time we get to training camp, I’ll have more of a good idea of where I’ll be. I know I’ll be somewhere on special teams. I’m just trying to take all the knowledge that I get from these guys and bust my butt every time we get a special teams period, no matter where I’m at on the field.”

Receivers coach Keenan McCardell expects Chark to get plenty of work on offense this season, too.

鈥淗e is a very talented kid that loves to play football — very coachable,” McCardell said. “He gives you the speed that we鈥檙e looking for outside. I think he is going to have an opportunity to stretch the defense for us. I鈥檓 looking forward to it. [He offers] another pair of young legs that can run.鈥?/p> Indianapolis Colts Elite Jerseys

With the race to launch sports betting programs officially begun Nick Foligno Jersey , West Virginia’s effort to get ahead of the curve continues to be bogged down by the question of whether the state will give the sports leagues a money-for-nothing “integrity fee.”

In the aftermath of a closed-door meeting brokered by Governor Jim Justice (pictured), who has a clear conflict of interest by virtue of his ownership of a resort that does business with the NFL and the PGA, a West Virginia lawmaker is seeking access to any and all information discussed and disclosed during the session.

Shawn Fluharty, a Delegate from Ohio County Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , has sent a letter to the director of the state’s Lottery Commission seeking information under the Freedom of Information Act. The letter seeks all meeting notes, sign-in sheets, email messages discussing the meeting, handouts distributed during the meeting http://www.officialredwings.com/authentic-adidas-dylan-larkin-jersey , visitor logs, and any video surveillance of the room at the Lottery Commission where the meeting was held.

The information should shed plenty of light both on the involvement of Justice and his advisors in attempting to cajole the state’s casinos into paying the integrity fee, along with whatever the sports leagues may be saying or doing to try to squeeze West Virginia to pay the fee.

The Jacksonville Jaguars declined to exercise the fifth-year option in defensive end Dante Fowler's rookie contract.

The decision could mean Fowler, the third overall pick in the 2015 draft who had eight sacks last year Alex Pietrangelo Jersey Kids , will become a free agent in 2019.

Executive vice president Tom Coughlin says "we do like Dante and we feel that he's on the verge of having a great season. ... We want him to have a great season and earn a new long-term contract with us this year."

Had the Jaguars picked up the option, they could have been on the hook for $14.2 million for Fowler in 2019. The contract would have been guaranteed only for injury. It would have been a huge risk to take on a backup to Pro Bowl pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

Fowler has 12 sacks in three seasons, plus two more in the 2017 postseason.

He missed his entire rookie year in 2015 after tearing a knee ligament during his first minicamp. He also has dealt with off-field problems, including hitting a man and throwing his groceries in a lake in 2017.

Fowler was arrested in Miami Beach in March 2016 and charged with misdemeanor counts of assault against a police officer and resisting arrest without violence. The charges were later dropped. That arrest came a little more than two weeks after a video surfaced showing Fowler refereeing a violent fight between his girlfriend and an ex-girlfriend.

He also has a long list of traffic violations Matt Calvert Jersey , including several for speeding.

The New Orleans Saints have been ordered by an NFL arbitrator to pay more than $384 Womens Sean Couturier Jersey ,000 to a fired personal assistant to late team owner Tom Benson.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that the Saints were ordered to pay Rodney Henry $100,000 plus interest for unpaid overtime and $94,300 plus for the violation of a clause in his employment contract stating he was entitled to a termination fee if anyone other than Benson himself fired Henry.

Arbitrator Harold Henderson also ordered the Saints to pay Henry's attorneys' fees of $190,000.

The Advocate newspaper first reported the ruling.

Henry's initial lawsuit in November 2015 accused the Saints not only of failing to pay overtime, but also of firing him for complaining that Benson's wife, Gayle, made racially insensitive comments about him. Henry, who is black, has not been awarded any damages for claims of racism.

Before the matter was referred to arbitration, which is not public, the Saints denied all allegations. In a written statement in January 2016 Ben Bishop Jersey , the Saints said Tom and Gayle Benson, who are white, considered Henry "part of their family," and were disappointed by his allegations of discrimination.

Gayle Benson is now the sole owner of the Saints and NBA's Pelicans, having inherited the clubs after her husband's death last March.

Henry was Benson's personal assistant dating back to the 1990s, serving in that role during two stints spanning close to 25 years.

The Saints could chose to appeal Henderson's ruling in federal court, but have not announced any intention to do so.

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — As he squares off against first-round draft pick Kolton Miller almost daily in training camp, Oakland Raiders rookie defensive end Arden Key rarely uses the same move twice.

On one play, Key takes a jab-step inside then spins around to Miller’s outside shoulder and speeds past the big left tackle. A few moments later, Key bull-rushes his way between Miller and another offensive lineman with little resistance.

It’s not an indictment of Miller so much as it is a credit to Key Youth Jake McCabe Jersey , the Raiders’ third-round draft pick who has been one of the early stars in training camp.

“We love Key,” Oakland coach Jon Gruden said Monday. “We’ve liked Key ever since the draft process. We felt lucky to get him where we got him. There’s some things this kid can do that are very special. Hopefully, we get full strength someday at the defensive end position and we can show our true colors.”

Gruden was referring to defensive end Khalil Mack, who is entering the final year of his contract and is holding out for a new deal.

Mack, the 2016 defensive player of the year, has been the Raiders’ best pass-rusher for the past four seasons. In hopes of giving him some help up front, the team used three of it first six draft picks to acquire Key along with defensive tackles P.J. Hall (second round) and Maurice Hurst (fifth round).

Oakland also moved Bruce Irvin from outside linebacker to right defensive end, the same position as Key. The two men formed a close bond, with Irvin serving as a mentor to Key.

Irvin compares Key to Aldon Smith, the talented but troubled former Raiders linebacker who had 33 ½ sacks in his first two NFL seasons before off-field issues forced him out of the league.

Like Smith, Key wears jersey No. 99.

“He’s a really natural rusher Christopher Tanev Jersey ,” Irvin said. “He reminds me a lot of the old 99 that was here. If he keeps his head on straight, which he will, he’s going to be a hell of a player and a hell of a player for the Raiders. Can’t wait to see what he’s going to do this year.”

Irvin is among a number of Oakland players and coaches who have repeatedly praised Key during camp.

The 22-year-old has tried to keep it all in perspective. Key buries his head in the playbook and has been pouring over film of other pass-rushers, trying to find new tricks to add to his arsenal of pass-rush moves.

“I look at a lot of pass-rushers to try to steal some of their moves and try them in one-on-one,” Key said. “If it works it works and if I like it, it’s going to stick with me.”

Getting around an offensive tackle, Key said, is much like a chess match.

“I always work on one move first and see if he beats it,” Key said. “If he beats that then I’m going to counter with something else. If he beats my counter move then I’ve got to counter with another counter.”

The Raiders have also had Key lining up in the three-technique over a guard, giving the defense more speed for the interior rush.

“He’s a stud, I’ll put it that way Jakub Voracek Jersey Kids ,” linebacker Tahir Whitehead said. “He’s big, he’s strong, he’s athletic. He can go inside, he can go outside. I’m excited to see him go out there in the first game and let it rip.”

As for his ongoing battles against Miller, Key said the competition has been heating up between the two rookies.

“Kolton gets better every day,” Key said. “From the first day we went against each to now, it’s just gotten so much better. Now I have to dig in my tool box to try to pick different moves to use on him.”

Notes: The Raiders will host two joint practices with the Detroit Lions beginning Tuesday. . RB DeAndre Washington has left the team for personal reasons but is expected back soon. . The team waived defensive back Shaquille Richardson and signed cornerback Raysean Pringle. . Gavin Newsome, a candidate for California governor, attended practice and chatted with owner Mark Davis.

GLENDALE Bobby Orr Jersey , Ariz. (AP) — The first-team offensive line looked powerful in its brief appearance in the Arizona Cardinals preseason opener. The second unit, not so much.

On Monday, Steve Wilks parsed the good from the not-so-good in the wake of Saturday night’s 24-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in his first game as Cardinals head coach.

“I liked the way we ran the football early on with the first group, setting the tone up front as we talked about,” he said. ” … We need to improve with the second offensive line. We talked about that and giving the quarterback, whomever may be back there, the opportunity to be able to step up and go through his progression.”

There was one serious injury for Arizona. Backup linebacker Jeremy Cash went down with a season-ending torn ACL, not long after he returned a fumble 12 yards for a touchdown. The Cardinals waived/injured Cash on Monday and signed linebacker Gerald Hodges to a one-year contract.

Hodges is a five-year NFL veteran who played with New Orleans last season Roberto Luongo Jersey , San Francisco in 2015 and 2016 and Minnesota from 2013-2015. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Vikings out of Penn State.

The Cardinals worked out inside air conditioned University of Phoenix Stadium on Monday and have an outdoor practice Tuesday before wrapping up training camp with another indoor session Wednesday.

Arizona plays at New Orleans on Friday night and next week will move workouts to its training facility some 40 miles to the east in Tempe.

Quarterback Sam Bradford played in only the opening series, completing his only pass for 6 yards.

David Johnson, back after missing all but the season opener a year ago with a fractured wrist, looked like his old self in his short time on the field, gaining 14 yards in each of the offense’s first two plays before calling it a night.

The front five — rookie center Mason Cole, guard Mike Iupati and tackle D.J. Humphries on the left side and guard Justin Pugh and Andre Smith on the right — looked particularly strong on those plays.

“It was a great job with the offensive line coming off the ball, getting to the second level,” Wilks said http://www.officialknightsproshop.com/authentic-adidas-brad-hunt-jersey , “and a tremendous job on the outside with Larry (Fitzgerald) coming in and blocking the support player, the safety. So all 11 guys working together. Again, it’s encouraging.”

But the second unit struggled up front, leaving rookie Josh Rosen scrambling to get plays off under duress.

Backup center Daniel Munyer had a particularly tough time, repeatedly rolling the ball to Rosen in shotgun formation.

“I had about five or six bad ones, which was frustrating because I don’t do that,” Munyer said. “I ended up getting out of it but I did feel bad because it was when Josh was at quarterback. I told him afterward, ‘Man Martin Jones Jersey , I’m sorry.’ I didn’t even know I was doing that until it was too late and that definitely killed some momentum in terms of timings with the throws and everything like that.”

Rosen, the 10th overall pick in the draft, completed 6 of 13 passes for 41 yards and was responsible for a delay-of-game penalty. But he had passes dropped and never had much time to throw.

Rosen will get some time with the first team against the Saints, Wilks said.

“We’re going to give him the opportunity to get in there with the ones and get into a rhythm and really get the timing down with those guys,” the coach said.

The Chargers outgained the Cardinals 387 yards to 174, running 77 plays to Arizona’s 49.

The Cardinals were 0-for-11 on third-down conversions compared with Los Angeles’ 6-for-16. The Chargers, though, committed four turnovers to Arizona’s one.

“Third down was not good on either side (offense or defense) Zdeno Chara Jersey ,” Wilks said. “That’s where we’ve got to improve. That’s going to help time of possession. That’s going to help giving us opportunities to have more yardage and get the ball in the end zone.”

The Buffalo Bills are going to have to play the waiting game to address their needs at either receiver or offensive line the second day of the NFL draft.

The Bills are left with just one pick, 96th overall, on Friday after giving up two second-round and a third-round selection after swinging a pair of trades on Day 1. Buffalo moved up five spots in the order to draft Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen at No. 7. The Bills then moved up six spots to pick Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds at No. 16.

Buffalo has openings along the offensive line after center Eric Wood was diagnosed with a career-ending neck injury in January, and after left guard Richie Incognito's abrupt retirement.

The receiver position lacks established depth behind Kelvin Benjamin. Buffalo could also be in the market for a running back with veteran workhorse LeSean McCoy set to turn 30 this summer.

The Arizona Diamondbacks hoped to have A.J. Pollock back before the All-Star break. The center fielder’s thumb was in good shape Authentic Oliver Bjorkstrand Jersey , but he wanted to get his legs under him before returning.

Pollock came back earlier than expected, coming off the 10-day disabled list on Monday and putting a key bat back in Arizona’s lineup as it tries to hold onto the NL West lead.

Pollock was slated to hit fourth against St. Louis in his first game back since breaking his left thumb while diving for a ball in the outfield against Milwaukee on May 14.

”I’m thankful that the guys here trusted me and allowed me to play a couple games and get back,” Pollock said.

Pollock got off to a strong start this season, hitting.293 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs in 40 games before the injury. Arizona’s division lead, once at six games with Pollock in the lineup, was down to 2 1/2 over the Los Angeles Dodgers after a three-game sweep by the San Francisco Giants over the weekend.

”Swing feels good Jonathan Huberdeau Jersey , everything feels good,” Pollock said.

Arizona also purchased the contract of right-hander Joey Krehbiel from Triple-A Reno and released right-hander Troy Scribner. Right-hander Silvino Bracho and utilityman Christian Walker were optioned to Reno.

The 25-year-old Krehbiel went 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 29 games with the Aces. He is looking for his big league debut.

Bracho went 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in five stints with the Diamondbacks this season.

Walker hit .208 with a homer and two RBIs over four stints with Arizona.

The Carolina Panthers are being sold for an NFL-record $2.2 billion.

Hedge fund manager David Tepper has agreed to buy the Panthers from team founder Jerry Richardson, two people familiar with the situation said Tuesday. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the sale.

The purchase is subject to a vote at the NFL owners meeting next week in Atlanta.

Richardson announced in December he was selling the team amid an NFL investigation into sexual and racial misconduct in the workplace. That decision came after a report by Sports Illustrated detailing Richardson’s alleged misconduct.

The league’s investigation into the allegations is still ongoing.

The price tag is the most ever paid for an NFL franchise, eclipsing the $1.4 billion the Pegula family paid to purchase the Buffalo Bills in 2014.

Ben Navarro, the founder and CEO of Sherman Financial Group, was considered Tepper’s biggest competitor in the bid to purchase the Panthers. He conceded Tuesday that he’d lost the bid.

”My family and I are grateful to have had the opportunity to be included as a potential buyer of one of the premier assets in all of the Carolinas – the Panthers football team Womens Bryan Rust Jersey ,” Navarro said in an email to The Associated Press. ”It would have been a privilege to become the stewards of this iconic franchise to ensure its home remains in the Carolinas where it belongs, to establish a new era of leadership and excellence on and off the field, and to leverage the team’s NFL platform to further our quest to help all children gain access to a great education.”

Tepper’s plans on whether the team will remain in Charlotte for the long-term future remain unclear.

The Panthers are tied to their downtown stadium through the 2018 season because of an agreement with the city. After that a new owner is free to extend the lease to the stadium, build a new stadium or possibly move the team.

Moving the Panthers out of Charlotte would seem to a longshot.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he would prefer to keep the team in Charlotte where it has been successful. The Panthers have been one of the NFL’s best supported teams with only two non-sellout games since the team began playing its home games in Charlotte in 1996.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Tepper, 60 Alex Ovechkin Jersey Kids , is a part owner of the Steelers and founder and president of Appaloosa Management, a global hedge fund based in Miami.

Because he holds a 5 percent stake in the Steelers, Tepper’s finances already have been vetted by the league, meaning it wouldn’t take much for NFL owners to approve the sale. However, Tepper would have to sell his minority ownership stake of the Steelers, per league rules.

Forbes listed Tepper’s net worth at $11.4 billion in February 2017.

Tepper is known for his philanthropy.

He donated $55 million to Carnegie Mellon University’s business school in 2013. Tepper graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon Nate Thompson Jersey , where the Tepper School of Business is named after him.

Richardson was the first and only majority of the Panthers. He became only the first former player since George Halas to become an NFL owner when he was awarded an expansion franchise in 1993. Richardson promised fans at the time the Panthers would win a Super Bowl ”within 10 years.” Carolina has reached the Super Bowl twice, including in 2015, but has never won.
